Transcribe a Facebook Live video in two steps.

To transcribe a Facebook Live video, download it from Facebook first, then upload the file in the box below. We do not take Facebook links, but the file itself can be up to 5 GB and 10 hours, it comes back in about 2 minutes per hour of audio, and the first 20 minutes are free.

From Facebook to text

Save the live video, then send us the file.

Why it is a download

Facebook does not let outside services fetch a live video from its link, so a pasted URL would fail. If the live went out on your page or profile, Facebook lets you download it as an MP4. That file is what you upload.

Big files go up whole

A two-hour live at 720p is usually between 1 and 2 GB, and that uploads as one file. The box here takes files up to 500 MB; larger ones continue on the upload page, which accepts up to 5 GB.

The 2 GB line

Uploads under 2 GB preview the first 20 minutes free on a first visit and a pack transcribes the rest. Files between 2 GB and 5 GB start once a pack is on the account, and so does any stream recording over 6 hours.

What the live covered

Each video returns with a brief of the main points, chapters at each change of topic, the numbers and dates that were mentioned, and the questions viewers asked. Use it for the post-event summary or the caption file.

Reusing a Facebook Live

The live is over, and the only copy is a video.

✗ Leaving it as video

The recording sits on the page, and finding anything in it means watching.

  • No searchable text of the live
  • Comment questions answered once, then lost
  • Auto-captions only on some videos
  • Upload caps far below a 2 GB file
  • Notes rebuilt from memory
  • Nothing to send people who missed it

✓ Turning it into a document

One download, one upload, and the live becomes text you can share.

  • The whole live as one transcript
  • Files up to 5 GB accepted
  • Chapters for each part of the event
  • Viewer questions gathered in the brief
  • SRT to add captions back on Facebook
  • DOCX for the newsletter recap

Sample output

A two-hour community live, ready to quote.

Illustrative sample text, not a recording of a real event. The timestamps follow the downloaded file, which matches the time shown on the Facebook video.

FAQ

Facebook Live transcripts, answered.

How long will a 2-hour Facebook Live take?

About 4 minutes once the upload finishes, at around 2 minutes per hour of audio. On a slow connection the upload of a large video usually takes longer than the transcription. You can close the page once the upload is done and come back to the finished transcript.

What does a 2-hour live cost to transcribe?

120 minutes. On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers the remaining 100 with plenty left. Packs are one-time and the minutes never expire.

Is there a 6-hour rule for long lives?

Stream recordings over 6 hours start once a pack is on the account, and so do uploads over 2 GB. A long Facebook Live usually crosses the 2 GB line first.

How long can the video be?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file, whichever comes first. A longer broadcast can be cut into two files and sent separately. Each part gets its own transcript, and both sit in your Library.

Can I paste the Facebook link instead?

No, Facebook links are not fetched. Download the video and upload it; that also works for lives in any of the 99 languages detected automatically. A live where the host speaks one language and a guest another still comes back in both.

What formats come back, and where is the video processed?

You can export DOCX, TXT, SRT, VTT and JSON. The SRT can be uploaded back to the Facebook video as captions. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
