Transcribe a long Loom video into documentation.
Long Loom videos, the 90-minute walkthrough or the hour-long onboarding tour, are easier to use as text. Download the Loom as an MP4 and drop it here: a 90-minute video is ready in about three minutes, and one file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes cost nothing, and the remaining seventy go on a pack from $6.
Long Looms
A walkthrough is only quick for the person recording it.
Download, then upload
Open the video on loom.com and use Download to save the MP4. The owner can always download; a viewer can only if the owner left downloads switched on. A Loom share link opens a player page, so the downloaded file is the dependable route.
A walkthrough becomes a how-to
The chapters follow the screens you moved through, each with a timestamp, and the brief sets out what the video was for. Paste both into a wiki page and the person who never presses play still gets the steps.
Ninety minutes, three to wait
Long Looms go through at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A recorded code review or a product tour of an hour and a half is usually finished in about three minutes. Very long screen recordings continue on the upload page.
Captions for the long version
Download SRT or VTT to put captions back on the video wherever you host it, or DOCX when the walkthrough needs to become a written guide. All five formats come from the same run.
The long Loom
Ninety minutes of screen recording is hard to skim.
✗ Watching to find one step
Long Looms get recorded once and watched in fragments, with viewers dragging the playhead to find the part they need. The person who recorded it ends up answering the same questions in chat.
- Viewers scrubbing for the one screen they need
- Setup steps nobody wrote down
- Knowledge locked inside a video player
- No way to search across a library of walkthroughs
- A long tour that new hires abandon halfway
- Re-recording because the old video is too long
✓ Reading the walkthrough
The same video comes back as text with chapters, so a reader goes straight to the step they need.
- Chapters that mirror each screen of the tour
- Steps written out, ready for the wiki
- A searchable Library of every walkthrough
- A brief at the top for the impatient reader
- Captions for viewers who watch muted
- The full length, with no cap at minute five

FAQ
Long Loom videos, answered.
How do I get the MP4 out of Loom?
Open the video on loom.com and use Download, either from the button on the video page or from the menu. If you are not the owner and you see no download option, ask the owner to turn downloads on or send you the file.
Can I paste a Loom link instead?
A Loom share link opens a player page, and whether the video behind it can be fetched depends on its privacy settings. Downloading the MP4 and uploading it always works.
How long does a 90-minute Loom take?
About three minutes for an hour and a half of video, because transcription runs at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. Shorter Looms are often done in under a minute.
What does a library of long Looms cost?
Credits are counted by the minute. One 90-minute Loom fits in the $6 pack (500 minutes). Twenty hours of recorded onboarding videos is 1,200 minutes, which the $12 pack (2,000 minutes) covers. Unused minutes stay on the account with no expiry date.
Is there a size limit?
A single file may be as long as 10 hours or as large as 5 GB. Before a pack is on the account, uploads go up to 2 GB, which is far more than a typical long Loom, since Loom keeps its files small.
Which languages and exports?
Language detection covers 99 languages, including Looms that switch language partway, and you never pick one from a menu. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
