Transcribe a long Riverside recording as one episode.
A long Riverside session, the three-hour conversation or the two-hour interview, transcribes best from one file. Download the combined recording, upload it once, and a three-hour episode is usually ready in about six minutes; one file can go to 10 hours or 5 GB. The opening 20 minutes are on us, and the rest of the episode runs on a pack from $6.
Long Riverside sessions
Separate tracks are for editing. One file is for the transcript.
Upload the combined recording
Riverside can give you a track for each participant and a recording with everyone together. For the transcript, the combined one is the file to use: every voice is in it, in order. A long WAV or video download that runs past the box's size continues on the upload page.
If you only have the separate tracks
Each track is a file of its own, and each one uploaded becomes its own transcript with its own timestamps. That suits pulling one guest's answers, but for the conversation as it happened, mix the tracks down or download the combined file.
Three hours, six minutes
Transcription runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a long-form episode is ready while you are still exporting the edit. You do not need to keep the tab open.
Show notes start here
The brief carries the thesis and takeaways, chapters come with timestamps for the episode description, and key quotes keep the speaker's name. The names, numbers and dates mentioned are listed so the links in the notes are easy to find.
Long remote recordings
A three-hour episode is a lot to write show notes from.
✗ Notes from the raw episode
Long conversations are the hardest to summarise by ear. The good line from hour two is gone by hour three, and the show notes end up describing only the opening.
- Rewatching three hours for the pull quote
- Separate tracks transcribed one by one
- Chapters written by guessing the timestamps
- Guest names misspelled in the description
- Books and links mentioned and forgotten
- Show notes that only cover the first hour
✓ Notes from the transcript
One combined file gives you a full transcript and the pieces of the show notes: the brief for the summary paragraph, chapters for the timestamps, and quotes for the social posts.
- A pull quote with its timestamp attached
- The whole conversation in one document
- Chapters ready for the episode description
- Guests named in the summary and quotes
- Every title, figure and date that came up, listed
- Coverage from the first minute to the last

FAQ
Long Riverside recordings, answered.
Which Riverside file should I upload?
The combined recording with every participant in it. Separate tracks also work, but each becomes its own transcript, so the conversation is easier to read from the combined file.
How long will a 3-hour Riverside episode take?
Six minutes or so. Processing averages about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a ninety-minute interview takes about three and a four-hour marathon about eight. The transcript waits in your Library when it is done.
What does a long episode cost?
A three-hour episode is 180 minutes, which the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers. A season of twelve two-hour episodes is 1,440 minutes, which fits the $12 pack (2,000 minutes). Packs are one-time and credits never expire.
Is there a size limit for WAV downloads?
One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. WAV is large, roughly 600 to 700 MB an hour at studio settings, so very long WAV files can reach the limit. An MP3 or M4A of the same recording transcribes the same and is far smaller.
Are the speakers identified?
Yes. The summary, key quotes and chapters identify each speaker by name, so the show notes credit the right guest. Each transcript line carries its timestamp, so any quote can be checked against the audio before you publish it.
What about other languages, exports and data?
Episodes in any of 99 languages are detected without a setting, which matters for interviews where a guest switches language. You can download it as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
