Zencastr WAV · 5 GB · 2 h in ~4 min

Transcribe a long Zencastr recording WAV and all.

Zencastr records remote conversations at high quality, which makes the files large when the conversation runs long. Upload the WAV or MP3 you downloaded: one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and a two-hour recording takes about four minutes. The first 20 minutes of the file are free, and a $6 pack transcribes everything after them.

Long Zencastr recordings

High-quality audio, long conversations, big files.

What WAV size means here

Uncompressed WAV runs roughly 600 to 700 MB an hour at studio settings, so a three-hour recording can sit near 2 GB. That still uploads as one file. Anything past the box's size continues on the upload page.

The 2 GB line

Before a pack is on the account, uploads go up to 2 GB, and a larger file starts once a pack is there. If you would rather preview first, upload the MP3 version of the same recording: the words are identical and the file is about a tenth of the size.

Mixed file or separate tracks

If you have a file with every voice in it, upload that for one readable conversation. A per-guest track uploaded on its own becomes a separate transcript, which helps when you want only one person's answers.

Two hours, four minutes

Transcription averages about 2 minutes per hour of audio. While you are still listening through the edit, the transcript, brief, chapters and quotes are already waiting in your Library, along with a chat you can ask about anything a guest said.

Big remote recordings

Good audio should not be the reason a tool says no.

✗ Upload forms built for MP3s

Long WAV recordings meet the size limits other tools set for short compressed files. The usual answer is to cut the file up, which turns one conversation into a pile of fragments and an afternoon of joining them back together.

  • A 2 GB WAV refused at the upload form
  • Converting and compressing before you can start
  • Cutting a conversation into chunks
  • Separate transcripts for every chunk
  • Timestamps that restart in each part
  • Hours lost before reading a word

✓ Upload the WAV

The recording goes up as Zencastr gave it to you, and comes back as one transcript with one timeline, plus a brief and chapters for the episode page.

  • WAV files up to 5 GB in one upload
  • No conversion step on your side
  • The conversation kept in a single piece
  • One clock from the first minute to the last
  • MP3 accepted when you want a quicker upload
  • A brief and chapters ready for show notes

FAQ

Long Zencastr recordings, answered.

Can you take a large Zencastr WAV file?

Yes, up to 5 GB and 10 hours per file. Before a pack is on the account, the upload limit is 2 GB; above that, the file starts once a pack is there. A link to the recording, if it is on Google Drive, skips the upload altogether.

How long does a 2-hour recording take?

Count on about four minutes for a two-hour session. The rate is roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio whether the file is WAV or MP3; only the upload itself is slower for the larger WAV.

What does a long Zencastr recording cost?

A two-hour recording is 120 minutes, inside the $6 pack (500 minutes). A weekly show of 90-minute episodes for six months is about 2,340 minutes, which goes on the $24 pack (5,000 minutes). Packs are one-time, with no subscription required.

Should I upload separate tracks or the mixed file?

The mixed file, if you have one. Each separate track becomes its own transcript, which is useful only when you want one participant's words alone.

Will a WAV transcribe better than an MP3?

For speech, a decent MP3 transcribes as well as the WAV it came from. Use whichever you have; the MP3 simply uploads faster.

Does it handle non-English shows, and what can I export?

The spoken language is identified automatically from 99 options, so a show recorded in Dutch or Tagalog needs no preparation. Downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON files. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
