Transcribe a long Vimeo video from its link.
For a long Vimeo video, a recorded conference day, a course module or a three-hour talk, you can paste the link instead of uploading anything. A three-hour video is usually transcribed in about six minutes, and one video can run up to 10 hours. The first 20 minutes come free, after which a pack from $6 transcribes the other two hours and forty minutes.
Long Vimeo videos
The video is already online. The link is enough.
Paste the link
A public Vimeo link is fetched on our side, so a multi-gigabyte video never has to pass through your connection. The transcript starts as soon as the audio is in, and the video stays exactly where it is on Vimeo.
Private videos
If the video is private or behind a password, the link cannot be fetched. Download the file from Vimeo, if you own it or the owner allows downloads, and upload it instead; files over 500 MB continue on the upload page, up to 5 GB.
Captions back on Vimeo
Download the SRT or VTT and add it to the video in Vimeo's settings, so a three-hour talk has captions from the first minute to the last. DOCX and TXT give you the same words as a document.
A long talk you can quote
The brief carries the thesis and takeaways, chapters come with timestamps for the video description, and key quotes keep the speaker's name. Use the chat to ask where a topic came up.
Long Vimeo videos
Long videos get watched in pieces, if at all.
✗ The video alone
A three-hour recording on Vimeo reaches the people who have three hours. Everyone else skips around, misses the part they came for, or leaves within the first ten minutes.
- Downloading gigabytes just to transcribe them
- No captions on a three-hour talk
- A description without chapters
- Viewers hunting for the one segment they need
- Quotes copied by pausing and retyping
- No text for search engines to read
✓ The video and its text
Paste the link once and get the transcript, captions and chapters for the same video, so the long recording works for readers, for viewers who watch muted, and for search.
- Paste a link instead of moving gigabytes
- Captions for the whole length
- Chapters ready for the video description
- A brief readers can skim in two minutes
- Quotes with the timestamp to link to
- A transcript to publish beside the video

FAQ
Long Vimeo videos, answered.
Can I paste a Vimeo link instead of uploading?
Yes, for a video that is public. Private and password-protected videos cannot be fetched by link; download the file and upload it.
How long does a 3-hour Vimeo video take?
Around six minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. Pasting the link skips the upload wait entirely, which is the slow part for a large video on a home connection.
What does it cost to transcribe long Vimeo videos?
A three-hour video is 180 minutes, inside the $6 pack (500 minutes). A course library of 30 hours is 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack (2,000 minutes), and 50 hours of conference recordings goes on the $24 pack (5,000 minutes).
Is there a limit on video length?
One video can be up to 10 hours, and an uploaded file up to 5 GB. A recording longer than ten hours goes in as two files.
Can I put the captions back on Vimeo?
Yes. Download the SRT or VTT and upload it as a caption file in the video's settings on Vimeo. Because the timestamps come from the same video, the captions line up from the opening remarks to the closing applause.
Languages, export formats and privacy?
Videos in any of 99 languages are detected without a setting, which helps with international conferences where speakers change language between sessions. Pick TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON when you export. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
