Why the link did not work
A Google Drive file is private until you share it. When the link is pasted into WhipScribe, Google answers our request with its sign-in page instead of the audio, so there is nothing to transcribe and the job stops straight away. Nothing is charged for it.
The same happens when the link is cut short while copying, or when it points to a folder rather than to the file itself.
On a phone
In the Google Drive app, tap the three dots next to the file, then Share or Manage access. Under General access, tap Change and choose Anyone with the link, then go back and tap Copy link. Paste it into WhipScribe in your phone's browser.
School and work accounts
A Google account from a school, university or company may not offer Anyone with the link: the administrator can limit sharing to people inside the organisation. If you only see your organisation's name under General access, the link cannot be opened from outside it. Use Library → Add content → Google Drive instead, which imports the file through your own Google sign-in, or download the file and upload it.
If someone else owns the file, only they (or an editor) can change its sharing. Ask them to, or download a copy and upload that.
After the transcript is finished
You can set the file back to Restricted as soon as the transcript appears. Your finished transcript stays in WhipScribe either way.
How to do it
- Open drive.google.com and find the recording.
- Right-click it and choose Share, then Share again (or open the file and click Share at the top right).
- Under General access, change Restricted to Anyone with the link.
- Leave the role on the right as Viewer.
- Click Copy link, then Done.
- Paste the link into WhipScribe and press Transcribe.
- When the transcript appears, you can set General access back to Restricted.
