Can I transcribe a Google Drive folder of recordings? yes, with one shared link.
Yes: share the folder so anyone with the link can view it, paste that link, and every recording inside becomes its own transcript, each file up to 10 hours or 5 GB (with or without a pack on the account). A folder of eight 90-minute interviews is 720 minutes, roughly 24 minutes of processing at about 2 minutes per audio hour; the opening minutes are a free preview, and 720 minutes sits inside the $18 pack of 3,000.
How a folder goes in
Share once, paste once, and each file gets its own transcript.
Set the sharing first
Open the folder in Drive, choose Share, and set general access to anyone with the link, with viewer rights. A folder left on Restricted cannot be read from outside your Google account, and the page says so plainly instead of failing in silence. Nothing has to be downloaded to your computer, and your own internet connection is not doing the heavy lifting.
One job per recording
Every audio or video file in the folder is queued as a separate recording, with a clock that starts at 00:00:00, its own brief and its own chapters. A study of ten interviews comes back as ten documents you can cite one by one, rather than a single blur that you would have to cut apart again.
Per-file limits still apply
Each file in the folder may run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before the first pack, files above 2 GB start right away, up to 5 GB. A recording longer than 10 hours should be cut into two halves at a natural break before it goes into the folder.
Count the folder before you pay
Add up running times, not the number of files. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.
Folder by folder
Downloading and re-uploading thirty files is the slow way round.
✗ Doing it one file at a time
The usual route when a tool only accepts single uploads.
- Download the whole folder as a zip
- Unpack it and hunt for the audio
- Upload each recording by hand
- Wait on a slow home connection for video
- Lose track of which files are finished
- Start again when a colleague adds more
✓ Pasting the folder link
The files stay where they are in Drive and are fetched from there.
- One link covers the whole folder
- No upload from your own connection
- A separate transcript for every file
- Timestamps that restart per recording
- A brief and chapters for each one
- TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON per file
Sample output
Interview four of twelve, opened from the folder.
Illustrative lines written for this page, not taken from a real recording, as they might read in one file from a shared research folder.

FAQ
Questions about Drive folders.
Can I transcribe a whole Google Drive folder at once?
Yes. Share the folder so anyone with the link can view it, paste the link into the box, and each recording inside is fetched and transcribed as a separate file. You never download the folder to your own machine.
Why does it tell me the folder is not shared?
The folder is still set to Restricted, so only people signed in with access can open it. Switch general access to anyone with the link, viewer is enough, and paste the same link again. You can set it back to Restricted after the transcripts are done.
How long does a folder take?
About 2 minutes for every hour of audio in it. A folder holding 11 hours of interviews comes to roughly 22 minutes of processing in total, and each file is ready as soon as its own run finishes.
How much does a folder of recordings cost?
Total the running time of the files. 720 minutes uses the $18 pack of 3,000 and leaves 2,280 minutes for later folders. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. A first visit gets a free preview of the opening minutes, and credits never expire.
Can one file in the folder be longer than 10 hours?
No. The ceiling is 10 hours or 5 GB for each file, so split a longer recording at a pause and keep both halves in the folder. Files up to 5 GB start with or without a pack on your account.
Where do the transcripts end up, and who sees the audio?
They sit in your WhipScribe account, one per recording, with exports in TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
