How do I transcribe a long recording on Android? From the browser, in minutes.
Open whipscribe.com in Chrome on your Android phone, tap the upload box and choose the recording: one file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB (up to 2 GB before your first pack), and it is transcribed at about 2 minutes per audio hour. The first 20 minutes are free, and a 2-hour recording, 120 minutes, is ready in about 4 minutes and fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 380 to spare.
Four steps on the phone
From the recorder app to a transcript you can search.
1. Find where the recorder saved it
Recorder apps on Android differ by maker. Most keep their files in a Recordings or Music folder, and most save M4A, MP3 or another common audio type. If you are unsure, open the recording in the app, use its share or export option, and save a copy to Downloads where the file picker finds it fast.
2. Tap the box and pick the file
In Chrome, the upload box opens Android's file picker. Browse to the folder, tap the recording and the upload starts. A long phone recording is usually a modest file: two hours of voice audio is often under 150 MB, far inside the 2 GB that uploads before a pack.
3. Stay on the page while it uploads
Some phones pause a browser tab that slips into the background, so keep the screen on and the page in front until the progress bar completes, and use Wi-Fi for a big file. Once the upload is done, the work runs on our servers and the phone can go back in your pocket.
4. Read the brief, not the scroll
Two hours of text is a long thumb workout. The brief gives the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps jump straight to each part, speakers are named in the summary and key quotes, and the chat answers a question about the recording in a sentence. Bigger files can also start from the upload page.
Phones and long audio
Why on-device options run out on long recordings.
✗ Built-in phone transcription
Live captions and recorder apps on some phones transcribe as you record, but they are tied to one app, one model of phone or one language setting.
- Only on certain phones or recorders
- No help for a file someone sent you
- Long recordings stall or get cut
- Nothing for a link to a video
- Plain text with no structure
- Hard to export to a document
✓ Any recording, any Android
The same page works in Chrome on a budget phone and on a tablet, for files you made and files you were sent.
- Up to 10 hours in one file
- About 4 minutes for two hours
- The first 20 minutes free
- $6 covers 500 minutes
- Speakers named in the summary
- TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON
Sample output
A long voice recording, timed to the minute.
Illustrative lines only, not a real recording. Each line keeps the time it was spoken, so you can scrub back to it in your recorder app.

FAQ
Long recordings on Android, answered.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Everything happens in the browser, so Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox on Android all work. Open whipscribe.com, tap the box, and the phone's own file picker does the rest.
How long does a long Android recording take?
Processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 90-minute lecture takes around 3 minutes and a 5-hour workshop around 10. The upload comes first and depends on your connection; on mobile data a large video can take longer to send than to transcribe.
What does it cost?
A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free. Recordings up to 500 minutes in total fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes, a month of weekly 3-hour classes (about 720 minutes) fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and anything heavier goes on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes. Packs are one-time, credits never expire, and there is no subscription.
My phone video is bigger than 2 GB. What now?
Long 4K video from a phone camera grows fast. A file over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account, and the ceiling per file is 5 GB. If the speech is all you need, many recorder and editor apps can save an audio-only copy, which is far smaller.
Can I skip the upload on mobile data?
Yes. If the recording sits in Google Drive, set it to anyone with the link and paste that link instead; YouTube, Vimeo and podcast links work the same way. The file is fetched on our side, so nothing heavy leaves the phone.
What if the recording is longer than 10 hours?
Split it into two files at a natural pause with an audio editor, or stop and restart the recorder next time. Each part gets its own transcript and timestamps. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
