Transcribe a 5-hour training session A day of instruction you can search.
A 5-hour training session is 300 minutes: it is transcribed in about 10 minutes as one file and uses 300 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack, leaving 200. The first 20 minutes are free, and if the video is over 2 GB it starts once a pack is on the account.
Five hours of training
From a recorded session to a reference people use.
Ten minutes, measured
Processing runs at about 2 minutes per audio hour, so 300 minutes takes roughly 10. On the public timing page a 4.94-hour file finished in 372 seconds, close to this length and faster than the rule of thumb.
A five-hour file is big
Screen-share video at 2 Mbps is 15 MB a minute, about 4.5 GB for five hours: under the 5 GB limit, but over the 2 GB that uploads before a pack. At 3 Mbps it is about 6.75 GB, too big for one file, so upload only the audio, which at 128 kbps is about 288 MB. Heavier recordings continue on the upload page.
The steps, pulled out
The brief gives the takeaways, chapters with timestamps mark each module, and the numbers, settings, dates and names the trainer said are listed. A new hire can search for one procedure instead of rewatching a morning.
Questions answered later
The chat answers what the trainer said about a specific step and points to the moment in the recording. Trainers and participants are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, so a follow-up question reaches the right person.
Long training recordings
Why five hours of training is rarely reused.
✗ A recording on a shared drive
A five-hour session is recorded for the people who missed it, and almost nobody watches it end to end.
- Five hours of video to scrub
- A file too large for most web forms
- Upload tools that give up after an hour or two
- Cutting the video into parts by hand
- Steps written up weeks later, if ever
- Questions asked twice by every new cohort
✓ A session you can search
One upload of the whole day, with the procedures pulled out.
- 300 minutes in one file
- About 10 minutes to text
- Modules as timestamped chapters
- Settings and figures listed
- DOCX for the handbook
- 200 pack minutes left over

FAQ
5-hour training sessions, answered.
How long does a 5-hour training session take to transcribe?
About 10 minutes of processing for 300 minutes of audio. A multi-gigabyte video can take longer to upload than to transcribe, which is why sending only the audio track is worth it at this length.
What does a 5-hour session cost, and a month of them?
One session uses 300 minutes of the $6 pack (500 minutes), leaving 200. Four sessions a month is 1,200 minutes, which fits the $12 pack (2,000 minutes) with 800 left. A 100-minute module on its own would use 100 minutes, and five of those fit one $6 pack. A team that records training every week can also use the $19/month Workspace. Someone new to WhipScribe gets the first 20 minutes of the session free.
Is a 5-hour video too large to upload?
It can be. The limit is 5 GB per file, and before the first pack it is 2 GB. A 5-hour video at 2 Mbps is about 4.5 GB, so it starts once a pack is on the account; a higher-bitrate file passes 5 GB and should be uploaded as audio only. Should the upload refuse the file, convert it to MP3 first.
Should I split a 5-hour session into modules?
Not for the transcript; 5 hours is well inside the 10 hours allowed per file, and chapters already divide it by module. Split only if the video is over 5 GB and you would rather keep video than extract the audio.
Can it transcribe training in other languages?
Yes, 99 languages are detected automatically. A session that switches between English and Tagalog is handled, which suits teams training in the Philippines. Training delivered in Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish or Afrikaans needs no setting.
What downloads come back, and is a training recording kept private?
Downloads are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, so the DOCX can go straight into a handbook. Training recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training models.
