Greek Orthodox parishes · Liturgies of 90 to 120 minutes

Transcribe a Greek church service with the homily in Greek and English, as it was preached.

A 105-minute Greek Divine Liturgy recorded in a US parish is transcribed in under 4 minutes, with Greek detected automatically and the English homily or announcements kept in the same text. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire.

For the parish office

Many US parishes preach the homily twice, once in Greek and once in English. The transcript keeps both, and the bulletin finally carries the full text.

Both homilies, summarised

The brief gives the homily's message and takeaways, so the parish newsletter can carry it for those who were at work or at a game on Sunday.

Name days and dates

Saints' days, memorial services, festival dates and the names read aloud are listed with timestamps, ready for the calendar and the bulletin.

Captions for the livestream

Download SRT or VTT and add captions to the posted Liturgy video; the spoken homily and announcements are captioned, and the chanted hymns stay uncaptioned because music is not transcribed.

Holy Week and the archive

Paste a Google Drive folder of the week's services, or upload a long Resurrection service video through the upload page.

Sunday afternoon

The livestream ended at noon. By Tuesday the homily survives only in the memories of those who heard it.

✗ Video only

The Liturgy is streamed, archived and rarely opened again.

  • No homily text for the website
  • Greek-only and English-only listeners each missing half
  • The office retyping announcements
  • Replays without captions
  • Festival dates said once and lost
  • A stream file too large to email

✓ Video plus text

Upload after the coffee hour; the text is ready in minutes.

  • Full text in Greek script, English as spoken
  • Chapters from the Gospel reading to the dismissal
  • Feasts, dates and names listed
  • The priest and any guest homilist named in the summary
  • SRT and VTT for the replay
  • Packs from $4 for 300 minutes

Sample output

A homily in Greek, with the English for those who prefer it.

An invented excerpt for illustration only; it quotes no real parish or priest. In English: 'Good morning, and many happy returns to everyone celebrating a name day today'; 'In today's Gospel we heard the parable of the Good Samaritan'; 'Who is my neighbour? Each of us asks this too'; an English line restating the question; 'After the Liturgy, coffee will be served in the hall.'

FAQ

Greek church services, answered.

How long does a Sunday Liturgy take?

Under 4 minutes for 105 minutes of audio, at about 2 minutes per hour. Orthros and Liturgy recorded together over two and a half hours take about 5, and the homily cut on its own takes seconds.

What do Holy Week and a year of Sundays cost?

Holy Week brings many long services; if the parish records about 15 hours across the week, 900 minutes, that fits the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. If only the homilies are uploaded, about 20 minutes each, a year of 52 comes to 1,040 minutes on the $18 pack. Credits never expire.

Is the Greek written in Greek letters?

Yes. Greek is detected automatically and written in Greek script, and English passages come back in Latin letters in the same transcript. The service is detected on its main language, so a parish where most of the Liturgy is in English is detected as English, and the Greek still comes through.

What about the chanters and the choir?

Chanted and sung parts are treated as music, and music is not transcribed; the speech is. Readings that are spoken rather than chanted, the homily, spoken prayers and the announcements come through.

The stream file is big. Will it upload?

At 2.5 Mbps a stream is about 1.1 GB an hour, so a 105-minute Liturgy lands just under 2 GB, well inside the 5 GB one file can be. A longer feast-day service at the same bitrate grows past 2 GB and still uploads as it is; the ceiling for one file is 10 hours or 5 GB. Pasting the YouTube link, live replays included, skips the upload entirely.

Is the recording private, and which files come back?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. The parish gets TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and a chat over the transcript that can find, say, the Sunday the festival dates were announced.
