Greek-speaking parishes · Divine Liturgies of 2 to 3 hours

Transcribe a Greek church service and give the homily to every generation.

A 2.5-hour Greek church service recorded in Australia is transcribed in about 5 minutes, with Greek detected automatically and written in Greek script, and English parts of the homily handled in the same pass. The opening minutes are a free preview, and thirteen Sunday Liturgies of 150 minutes, 1,950 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000.

For the parish livestream team

The homily is given in Greek to three generations. Not all of them can follow it by ear.

The homily as a page

The brief gives the homily's message and takeaways, which the parish can print in the bulletin or post beside the livestream.

Readings and announcements kept

The Epistle and Gospel readings, the memorials and the announcements about feast days and Greek school are in the text with their timestamps. Memorial names read aloud are in the text where they were said.

Chanting and the spoken word

Sung and chanted parts of the Liturgy are treated as music and are not reliably transcribed; the spoken homily, readings and announcements are. To save credit, upload just the homily section if that is all you need.

Captions for the stream

SRT and VTT give Greek captions for the spoken parts of the livestream recording, for parishioners watching from home.

Why the homily is missed

The younger generation follows the Liturgy, but a Greek homily heard once is easily lost.

✗ Livestream only

The Liturgy is streamed and archived, and anyone who wants the homily must find it inside two and a half hours. Grandchildren who grew up in Melbourne or Sydney may understand spoken Greek only in part, and the homily is the part they most want to follow.

  • Typing Greek by hand
  • Tools that assume English
  • Homilies hard to find in a long video
  • No captions for viewers at home
  • Announcements missed by those away
  • The bilingual homily split in two

✓ Service as text

Upload on Sunday and print the homily for the next bulletin. Families can read the homily together at home, and the Greek school can use it as a reading exercise for older students.

  • Greek text of the spoken parts
  • Chapters at the readings, homily and announcements
  • Feast days and dates listed
  • The priest named in the summary
  • SRT and VTT for the replay
  • DOCX for the parish bulletin

Sample output

A Greek homily, with an announcement after the Liturgy.

Invented for this page; it quotes no real parish or priest. In English: beloved brothers and sisters, today's Gospel speaks to us about forgiveness; forgiveness is not weakness but strength; next Sunday we will have the memorial service; Greek school begins again on Saturday.

FAQ

Greek church services, answered.

Will the text be in Greek letters?

Yes. Greek is detected automatically and written in Greek script. Where the priest repeats part of the homily in English for younger parishioners, that comes through in the same transcript. Names of saints and feast days come through in Greek, as they were spoken.

What happens to the chanting and the choir?

Chanted and sung parts are treated as music, and music is not transcribed reliably; the speech is. The homily, the readings when spoken, the prayers said aloud and the announcements come through.

What does a quarter or a year cost?

A 150-minute Liturgy uses 150 minutes. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. Thirteen, 1,950 minutes, fit the $18 pack of 3,000. If you upload only the 25-minute homily each week, a whole year of homilies is 1,300 minutes on the $18 pack.

The livestream file is huge. Will it upload?

A 1080p stream at 3 Mbps is about 1.35 GB an hour, so a 2.5-hour Liturgy is around 3.4 GB: under the 5 GB limit, so it uploads with or without a pack. Pasting the YouTube link avoids the upload.

How long does it take?

About 2 minutes per hour of audio, so roughly 5 minutes for a 2.5-hour Liturgy and under a minute for a homily cut on its own. Feast-day services that run past three hours are ready in about 6 to 7 minutes.

Is the recording private?

The Liturgy is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. Downloads are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON.
