Finished podcast episodes · MP3 or RSS feed · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe a long Alitu episode from the finished MP3.

A long podcast episode made in Alitu is transcribed by downloading the finished MP3 and uploading it here, or by pasting the show's RSS feed once it is published. A 100-minute episode comes back in under 4 minutes; the first 20 minutes are free, and five such episodes use exactly the 500 minutes of the $6 pack.

For podcasters

Alitu turns long raw recordings into a finished episode. The transcript turns that episode into notes, chapters and a page people can search.

Use the finished episode

Transcribe what listeners hear: download the episode MP3 once Alitu has built it, and drop it on the upload page. Raw recordings with the false starts still in them can be uploaded too, if that is what you want in text.

Or paste the feed

Once the episode is published, paste the podcast's RSS feed link and choose the episodes. A back catalogue goes in the same way without downloading each file. Each episode is counted at its own length.

Chapters for the player

Chapters with titles and timestamps follow the topics of a long conversation, ready to paste into an episode description that supports timestamps.

Notes written from the episode

The brief gives the thesis and takeaways, guests are named in the summary and key quotes, and the questions the episode answers are listed for a blog post.

Long episodes elsewhere

A 100-minute episode is a lot of listening to write two paragraphs of show notes.

✗ Notes from memory

The episode is finished and published, and the description is whatever you remember from the edit. Most listeners skim the notes before deciding to press play.

  • Re-listening to pull guest quotes
  • Chapters guessed at, or skipped
  • No words on the page for search engines
  • The OpenAI Whisper API turning away files over 25 MB
  • A back catalogue no one can search
  • A monthly bill for a fortnightly show

✓ Notes from the transcript

The finished MP3 becomes the full text plus everything a show page needs. A published back catalogue can follow through the feed link.

  • Under 4 minutes for 100 minutes
  • Chapter list for the episode description
  • Guests named in quotes and summary
  • Questions the episode answers
  • Five episodes on the $6 pack
  • Pack credits that outlast a season break

FAQ

Alitu episodes, answered.

How long does a 100-minute episode take?

Under 4 minutes; at about 2 minutes per audio hour, 100 minutes is roughly 3 minutes 20 seconds. The public run at /proof/long-files shows 2.48 hours finished in 200 seconds.

What does a run of episodes cost?

A first-time visitor gets the first 20 minutes free, and a longer episode is previewed before a pack from $6 finishes it. Five 100-minute episodes are exactly 500 minutes, the size of the $6 pack. A year of fortnightly 100-minute episodes, 26 x 100 = 2,600 minutes, goes on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.

How big is the MP3?

At 128 kbps, 100 minutes is 6,000 seconds x 128 kbps = 768,000 kilobits, about 96 MB. Even a 10-hour MP3 at that rate is about 576 MB, far inside the 5 GB limit and the 2 GB allowed before your first pack.

Does a very long Alitu episode need splitting?

Only if it passes 10 hours, the per-file limit. Anything shorter goes up as one MP3. Few podcast episodes come close, so in practice one episode is one upload.

Can the episode be in another language?

Yes. The language is detected automatically among 99, Tagalog, Portuguese and Spanish included, and an episode that switches language is read on its main one.

Which exports come back, and who hears the episode?

Episodes export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. WhipScribe has no Alitu integration; it works on the exported file or the published feed.
