Phone recorder to transcript

The app is built to keep recording for hours. The words are the slow part.

Getting the file out

The app keeps recordings in its own list. A long press or the share option on a recording usually lets you send it to Files, a computer or a cloud folder such as Google Drive; menus differ between the Android and iPhone versions and between releases. Once it is out, pick it in the box above or paste a Drive share link.

Format and size

The app offers more than one format in its settings, typically compressed ones such as MP3 or M4A and uncompressed WAV; check which yours uses. An MP3 at 128 kbps is about 58 MB an hour, so five hours is near 290 MB and fits the 500 MB box. A long WAV is much bigger and continues on the main upload page.

Recording that lasts

For a full-day session keep the phone charging and check there is free storage first, switch on airplane or do-not-disturb mode so a call cannot interrupt, and set it near whoever talks most. Five hours of sound needs no splitting here: one file up to 10 hours or 5 GB is accepted.

What five hours turn into

The session comes back with a brief of its main points, chapters with timestamps for each change of topic, and the names, numbers and dates mentioned. Ask the chat when a decision was made and jump straight to that moment rather than scrolling a long waveform.

Long phone recordings elsewhere

Five hours on a phone records easily and then waits for a free weekend.

✗ Usually

The recording stays in the app, unheard.

  • Files chopped into clips to fit upload caps
  • The OpenAI Whisper API's 25 MB limit
  • Notes typed while listening back
  • A morning spent finding one remark
  • Dates and figures copied by ear
  • Uploads abandoned over mobile data

FAQ

Awesome Voice Recorder files, answered.

How long does a 5-hour recording take?

About 10 minutes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A 90-minute meeting takes about 3.

Is my file too big for the box on this page?

The box accepts up to 500 MB, which covers many hours of MP3 or M4A. A larger file, such as a long WAV, continues on the main upload page, where one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, with or without a pack.

What does it cost?

The opening minutes are a free preview. Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. A weekly 5-hour session for a month is 1,200 minutes, on the $18 pack of 3,000.

Does WhipScribe work inside the app?

No. There is no integration with Awesome Voice Recorder and nothing is added to your phone. You share a finished recording and upload it.

My recording is in Hindi with English words. Will it work?

Yes. The main language is detected automatically from 99, and English terms spoken inside another language are handled.

Which exports come back, and who handles the audio?

You get TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Phone recordings sent here are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
