Transcribe Canvas LMS lecture recordings course videos and class conferences.
A lecture recording inside a Canvas course transcribes once you download the file and upload it here, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 50-minute lecture is ready in under 2 minutes. A month of twelve such lectures is 600 minutes on the $18 pack of 3,000 minutes, and the opening minutes are a free preview.
Recordings inside a Canvas course
A Canvas course keeps lectures in more than one place. Any of them can become text once it is a file.
Files and Modules
Instructors often upload lecture videos to Files or attach them to a module page. Where downloading is allowed, the file saves like any attachment, usually as an MP4. Videos kept in Canvas Studio have their own page here, and Zoom classes linked through the course live in the instructor's Zoom recordings. WhipScribe is not a Canvas app or LTI tool; it transcribes the file you hand it.
Class conference recordings
Live classes held through the course's conference tool are saved as recordings that play on a web page, and a playback page cannot be uploaded. Whether a downloadable video exists depends on your institution's setup, so ask the instructor or the campus support team. If the class was posted to YouTube or Google Drive, paste that link.
A term of lectures
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes, and credits never expire. One month of twelve lectures is 600 minutes on the $18 pack. Every lecture file goes up on upload page.
What comes back
Each lecture returns with a brief of its argument and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the terms, names, numbers and dates spoken, and the questions the lecture answers. The chat over the transcript finds the moment a deadline was moved. Lecturers and students who speak are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

FAQ
Canvas LMS recordings, answered.
Can I paste a Canvas link?
No. Course links need your campus sign-in, so WhipScribe cannot open them. Download the lecture file and upload it, or paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive link where the lecture was shared.
How long does a lecture take?
About 2 minutes per hour of audio: under 2 minutes for a 50-minute lecture and about 6 for a 3-hour seminar.
How much is a term of Canvas lectures?
Packs start at $4 for 300 minutes. A month of 600 minutes takes the $18 pack, and a 2,250-minute term takes the $32 pack. Credits never expire.
How big can a Canvas lecture file be?
Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Uploads go up to 5 GB per file with or without a pack; a heavier lecture video can go in as audio only.
Is this the same as Canvas Studio?
No. Canvas Studio is a separate video tool with its own page, linked below. This page covers lecture files in the course itself and class conference recordings.
Exports and privacy?
Pick TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON for each lecture. Lectures are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
