Transcribe a long Chromebook recording without filling the laptop.
A class recorded with the Chromebook screen capture tool is a video file, usually WebM, saved to the Downloads folder unless you picked another one; upload it here, or paste a Google Drive share link if the file already sits in Drive. A 75-minute lesson takes about 3 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest with more than seven hours to spare.
From the Chromebook to text
A recorded lesson becomes notes you can search, without moving gigabytes off a small drive.
Where the file is
Open the Files app and look in Downloads, or in the folder you chose in the screen capture settings. If the class ran on Google Meet and was recorded there, the file goes to the organizer's Google Drive instead, in a folder named Meet Recordings.
Paste the link, skip the upload
A Chromebook often has little local storage and a school network that crawls. If the recording is in Google Drive, share it so anyone with the link can view, then paste that link in the box. We fetch the file ourselves, so nothing leaves your laptop.
Turn the microphone on first
The screen capture tool records the screen, and it records your voice only when the microphone option is switched on in its settings. Check it before a long lesson; a silent recording gives the transcript nothing to work with.
Lesson notes, not just lines
Each class returns with a brief of the main points, chapters with timestamps for every topic, and the names, numbers and dates the teacher said. The teacher and students who speak are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and a chat answers revision questions.
Why Chromebook recordings stall elsewhere
Small drives, school networks and tools that stop at half an hour.
✗ What usually happens
Long recordings on a Chromebook tend to run into storage, upload speed and short free tiers at the same time.
- A recording too big to move on school Wi-Fi
- Free tiers that stop at 30 minutes
- A silent file because the mic was off
- Re-watching a whole class to find one formula
- Captions copied out of a video player
- A subscription for one term of lessons
✓ One class, one link
Send the file or its Drive link once, and the whole lesson returns as text with timestamps.
- Drive share links fetched on our side
- An hour of class in around 2 minutes
- WebM straight from screen capture
- 500 minutes for $6, kept until you use them
- Topics as chapters with timestamps
- Exports for notes, captions and code

A recorded chemistry lesson, as it comes back.
This sample is illustrative and was written for this page; it is not a real class. Timestamps run from the start of the screen recording.

FAQ
Chromebook recordings, answered.
How fast does a recorded class come back?
At about 2 minutes per hour of audio, a 75-minute lesson is ready in roughly 3 minutes and a half-day workshop in under 10. Leave the tab if you like; the result is stored in your Library.
What does a term of recorded classes cost?
Your first visit includes the first 20 minutes free. A week of five one-hour classes is 300 minutes, which fits in a $6 pack of 500. Forty one-hour lessons come to 2,400 minutes, past the $12 pack of 2,000, so the $24 pack of 5,000 is the one to buy, at about $0.29 an hour.
Does a WebM file from the screen capture tool work?
Yes. The upload accepts WebM video along with MP4 and common audio formats, and only the speech is transcribed, so the screen content does not matter. Background music in a class video is skipped.
What is the largest class recording I can send?
Up to 2 GB before your first pack, and up to 5 GB or 10 hours once a pack is on the account. A Drive link follows the same limits but skips the upload from your laptop entirely.
Do I need to split a long session?
No, unless it runs longer than 10 hours. A full school day recorded as one file still goes in whole, and the chapters break it into lessons for you.
Which languages and downloads, and is the class kept private?
99 languages are detected automatically, and English with Tagalog in one class is handled. You can download the text as TXT or DOCX, captions as SRT or VTT, and the data as JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training; deleting a class removes its transcript too.
