Transcribe a long recording from Dropbox one download, one upload.
To transcribe a long recording stored in Dropbox, download the file from Dropbox to your device and upload it here, because Dropbox links are not fetched directly; a three-hour recording is then ready in about 6 minutes. Files can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB (2 GB before your first pack), the first 20 minutes are free, and 180 minutes sits comfortably on the $6 pack of 500.
From a shared folder to text

Why the link will not work
A Dropbox share link opens a preview page, not the media file itself, and WhipScribe does not fetch from it. Open the link, use Download, and upload the file you get. The links fetched directly are YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive and podcast feeds.
When someone sent you the link
Received a Dropbox link to a long recording? Download it from the shared page; a public link usually works without a Dropbox account. Large videos take a while on slow connections, so asking the sender for an audio-only copy can save time.
Moving it to Drive instead
If you would rather not download at all, a copy in Google Drive shared as 'Anyone with the link' can be pasted straight in, folders included. That is a choice, not a requirement; uploading the downloaded file works just as well, from the box above or the upload page.
Size, worked out
A video at 2 Mbps is about 900 MB an hour (2 megabits × 3,600 seconds ÷ 8), so a three-hour video is near 2.7 GB and starts once a pack is on the account. The same three hours as 128 kbps audio is about 173 MB and uploads before any pack.
Where Dropbox recordings get stuck
The file is in the cloud; the link is not a file.
✗ Pasting the link
The usual attempt is to paste the Dropbox link somewhere and hope it reads the audio.
- A preview page instead of a media file
- The OpenAI Whisper API refusing anything past 25 MB
- A long video that times out on upload
- Recordings cut by hand into short pieces
- Files synced but never listened to
- A shared folder of interviews nobody summarised
✓ Download it, then upload it
One file at its full length, with a brief at the top.
- A three-hour file back in about 6 minutes
- Ten hours or 5 GB allowed per file
- Audio-only copies under the 2 GB line
- Drive links pasted when that is easier
- 500 minutes on a $6 pack, no plan to cancel
- Chapters, quotes and the numbers said

FAQ
Dropbox recordings, the common questions.
How long does a recording from Dropbox take?
The download depends on your connection; the transcription itself takes about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so three hours are ready in about 6 minutes once the upload finishes.
What does a folder of long recordings cost?
Twelve two-hour recordings are 1,440 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000. A single three-hour file uses 180 of the $6 pack's 500 minutes.
Can I paste a Dropbox share link instead?
No, Dropbox links are not fetched. Save the file to your device and upload that. Google Drive share links and folders, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick and podcast feeds are the links that work on paste.
What if the file is over 2 GB?
Files over 2 GB start once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB or 10 hours per file. Without a pack, extract the audio first; a few hours of speech is a few hundred megabytes. Past 10 hours, the recording goes in as two files.
What languages are recognised?
99 languages, detected automatically, including Tagalog, Korean and Zulu. If speakers change language during the recording, it is detected on the main language and the switches are handled.
What downloads are there, and what happens to the file?
Your Dropbox recording comes back as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Files you bring from Dropbox are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
