Streamer webcam · local file or VOD link · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe long streams filmed on an Elgato Facecam from the local recording or the VOD.

A stream filmed on an Elgato Facecam is recorded by your streaming software, or kept as a VOD on Twitch, Kick or YouTube, and either copy can be transcribed: upload the file, up to 10 hours or 5 GB, or paste the VOD link. A 4-hour stream returns in about 8 minutes, with the first 20 minutes free and the remaining 220 covered by the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

After you go offline

The Facecam feeds the scene. Everything you said lives in the VOD or the local recording.

Paste the VOD

If the broadcast went to Twitch, Kick or YouTube, copy the past-broadcast link and paste it in. Nothing has to download to your computer first, and a VOD longer than 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account.

Or the local recording

OBS Studio and Streamlabs write to the recording path set in their output settings, usually as MKV or MP4. When a browser will not accept an MKV, remux it to MP4 inside OBS, or export just the audio as an MP3.

Talk, not the game

Game audio, alerts and music beds are not transcribed; the speech is. If your software can record the microphone on a track of its own, uploading that track gives cleaner text on a stream with loud gameplay.

A month of streams

Three 4-hour streams a week for four weeks come to 48 hours, or 2,880 minutes. That calls for the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, with 2,120 left over, and each stream gets its own chapters to use as VOD timestamps.

Turning streams into something searchable

Four hours of talking on stream, and nothing written down unless someone clips it.

✗ When the VOD is all you have

It sits on the channel until it expires.

  • Scrubbing a 4-hour VOD for one moment
  • Viewers asking when a topic came up
  • Files past 25 MB turned away by OpenAI's Whisper API
  • Local MKV files a browser rejects
  • Captions you would have to type yourself
  • Long streams cut into parts to transcribe

✓ When the stream is text

A link or a file, and the whole session is searchable.

  • A VOD link, no download needed
  • Four hours of stream back in about 8 minutes
  • Chapters for the VOD description
  • Names, numbers and dates said on stream, listed
  • Captions to upload, as SRT or VTT
  • One file holding as much as 10 hours

FAQ

Elgato Facecam streams: the questions streamers ask.

Do I upload the file or paste the link?

Whichever you have. A Twitch, Kick or YouTube VOD link needs no upload at all, and a local recording from OBS or Streamlabs uploads like any video. WhipScribe has no connection to the Facecam, to Elgato's software or to your streaming app.

How long until a 4-hour stream is text?

Roughly 8 minutes; the pace is about 2 minutes for every audio hour. An 8-hour marathon takes closer to 16.

What does a stream cost?

A first visit includes 20 minutes of stream free. One 4-hour stream is 240 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes, while twelve of them, 2,880 minutes, belong on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.

What about a stream longer than 6 hours, or past 10?

A stream over 6 hours starts once a pack is on the account. Past 10 hours, download the VOD and upload it as two files, each with its own chapters.

Will the VOD link still work next month?

Only while the platform keeps it. How long past broadcasts are stored depends on the platform and your account, so transcribe soon after the stream or keep a downloaded copy.

Which languages and files, and where is the stream processed?

Any of 99 languages is detected from the audio, and a stream that drifts between two is read on the one that dominates. Your downloads are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Every stream is transcribed on our own servers, and none is used for training.
