Transcribe a Google Voice call recording the long ones too.
To transcribe a recorded Google Voice call or a long voicemail, download the recording as an MP3 and upload it below. A 150-minute call comes back as text in about 5 minutes; the first 20 minutes are free and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest.
Getting the call out of Google Voice
A recorded Google Voice call, turned into text you can quote.
Record the incoming call
On personal accounts, Google Voice can record incoming calls once call recording is turned on in the settings; you then press 4 during the call to start and stop. A short announcement plays when recording starts. If the option is missing, your account type or administrator may not offer it.
Download the MP3
Recorded calls and voicemails sit in the Google Voice web app. Open the recording, use its menu to download it, and the file usually arrives in your Downloads folder as an MP3. Google Takeout can export the whole Voice history at once if you need many calls.
Small files, any length
Voice MP3s are light. At 32 kbps an hour is about 14.4 MB (32,000 bits a second times 3,600 seconds, divided by 8), so even a very long call sits far below the 2 GB that uploads before a pack, and the 10-hour limit per file is the only one you might meet.
What 150 minutes costs
A two-and-a-half-hour call is 150 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor; the $6 pack of 500 minutes finishes the call and leaves 350 minutes for later calls.
Why a recorded call still goes unread
Google Voice keeps the call. Finding one sentence in it is your job.
✗ A list of MP3s
Recordings pile up in the inbox next to voicemails, named by number and date. When someone asks what was agreed, the only route is to play the call again.
- Calls named only by phone number
- A short voicemail preview at best
- No search across long recordings
- Replaying 2 hours for one figure
- Notes written from memory
- Several calls about the same matter, scattered
✓ The call as searchable text
One MP3 in, a brief, chapters and the details out. Searching the call takes seconds instead of a replay.
- The call readable in about 5 minutes
- Each person on the call named in the brief and quotes
- Amounts, dates and addresses listed
- Timestamps that point back into the audio
- Ask the call questions in a chat
- DOCX or TXT for your records

FAQ
Google Voice recordings, answered.
How long does a Google Voice recording take?
Every hour of call audio takes roughly 2 minutes to process. A 150-minute call is ready in around 5 minutes, and a ten-minute voicemail in well under a minute.
What will a batch of recorded calls cost?
Ten calls of 45 minutes are 450 minutes, which fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes with 50 to spare. A single 150-minute call on the same pack leaves 350 minutes. Packs are one-time payments in US dollars, with no subscription required.
Can I record outgoing calls too?
Google Voice call recording has been limited to incoming calls on personal accounts, and the options differ on work accounts. Whatever records the call, recording needs the consent the law where you are requires, so tell the other side first.
Will a long MP3 be too big?
No. Each file may run to 10 hours or 5 GB, and a voice MP3 reaches the 10 hours long before it reaches a gigabyte. A call longer than 10 hours goes up as two trimmed files.
Does it work for calls in other languages?
Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, so a call in Spanish, Tagalog or Japanese needs no setting, and English and Tagalog switches inside one call are handled.
Is a recorded call kept private, and which files can I take away?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, so a customer call stays your business. You get TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and you can delete the call and its text at any time.
