Transcribe a TapeACall recording an hour-long call in minutes.
TapeACall records iPhone calls and lets you export each recording as an MP3, which is the file you upload here. A one-hour call comes back as text in about 2 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and six hour-long calls fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
From TapeACall to a transcript
Interviews and work calls recorded on an iPhone, made readable.
Export from the recording list
Open the recording in TapeACall and use its share or export option to send the MP3 to Files, Google Drive or AirDrop. The exact menu wording changes between app versions, so look for Share on the recording itself.
Upload from Files or a computer
On the iPhone, open this page in Safari, tap the upload box and pick the MP3 from Files. If you sent it to a Mac or PC, drag it into the box. A Google Drive share link works too, pasted where a file would go.
Built for interview calls
Journalists and researchers who record calls get the guest named in the brief and the key quotes, with the minute each quote was said, so checking a line against the audio takes seconds rather than a replay.
Six interviews, one pack
Six one-hour interviews are 360 minutes. The $6 pack of 500 minutes covers them and leaves 140 minutes, and credits never expire, so the rest waits for next month's calls.
Why recorded calls sit untouched
TapeACall gets the call on record. Writing it up is still slow.
✗ An MP3 and a deadline
The interview is recorded, but the quote you need is somewhere in the 47th minute, and typing an hour of conversation takes most of a day.
- Hours of typing for one hour of talk
- Every quote checked by scrubbing
- Calls in a list named by date
- Phone speakers too quiet to transcribe by ear
- Follow-up questions forgotten
- Notes and audio that never line up
✓ The call, written out
Upload the MP3, and the call returns with a brief, chapters and quotes linked to timestamps.
- An hour of call ready in about 2 minutes
- Guest and host named in the summary
- Each quote tied to its minute
- Numbers and dates pulled out
- Chat with the transcript to find a remark
- DOCX for the draft, TXT for the archive

FAQ
TapeACall recordings, the questions people ask.
How fast is a TapeACall recording transcribed?
Around 2 minutes for each hour, so an hour-long call is ready in about 2 minutes and a 25-minute call in under one.
What does a long interview call cost?
A 90-minute call is 90 minutes of credit. The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the rest, keeping 410 minutes for later. Payment is one-time, in US dollars.
Do I need the other person's permission?
Often, yes. Recording a call needs the consent the law where you and the other person are requires, so say you are recording at the start of the call, as most reporters do.
How large can the MP3 be?
Up to 10 hours or 5 GB for one file, and up to 2 GB before your first pack. A call MP3 at 64 kbps is about 28.8 MB an hour, so length is the only limit you will meet.
Can it handle a call in Spanish or Japanese?
Yes, all 99 supported languages are recognised without a setting. A call that switches between English and Tagalog stays in one transcript, with the switches handled.
Is the interview kept confidential, and what are the exports?
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, which matters when a source asked to stay unnamed. The exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and you can delete everything when the story runs.
