Transcribe long videos hosted on JW Player from the file the owner exports.
If you own a long video on JW Player, export the file from your library and upload it here: a 2-hour panel comes back as text in about 4 minutes, and one file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers that panel with 380 minutes left over.
From your library to a document
The player page is not the file. The export is.
Start from the owner's copy
JW Player sits behind many newsroom and course sites, and what a visitor sees there is an embedded player, not a downloadable file. The account owner can usually download the video from the media library; check your account's download options. The file is usually an MP4, which uploads as it is.
Only what you have the right to use
Transcribe videos your organisation owns or has permission to work with. WhipScribe has no connection to JW Player, no plugin and no bot in your account; it reads the file after you have it. If the same video is also on YouTube or Vimeo, pasting that link skips the download.
The arithmetic for an archive
A 2-hour panel is 120 minutes on the $6 pack. Thirty of them make 3,600 minutes, more than the $12 pack's 2,000, so a back catalogue that size belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 1,400 to spare, at $0.29 an audio hour.
Captions and copy from one run
Download SRT or VTT to load captions back into the player, and DOCX for an article or show notes. You also get a brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates spoken on upload page.
Getting text out of a hosted video
Most tools want a short clip, and a hosted video archive is anything but.
✗ How it usually goes
An embedded player and a long runtime slow everything down.
- Trying to grab a file from the public page
- The OpenAI Whisper API refusing anything over 25 MB
- Cutting a 2-hour panel into short pieces
- Captions typed by hand for an archive
- Timestamps that drift after each join
- Old videos never searchable on the site
✓ With the exported file
One upload per video, one clock per transcript.
- The owner's MP4 uploaded whole
- About 4 minutes for a 2-hour panel
- A 5 GB ceiling per hosted video
- SRT and VTT ready for the player
- Chapters that match the segments
- $24 covers a 30-video archive

FAQ
JW Player videos, answered.
How fast is a 2-hour JW Player video transcribed?
In about 4 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour, so a video you export now is readable before the meeting about it starts. The proof page has a 2.48-hour file done in 200 seconds.
What will an archive of hosted videos cost?
One 2-hour video uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack's 500. Up to 33 hours of video fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and a larger back catalogue fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes. Credits do not expire, so you can work through the archive at your own pace.
Can I paste the address of the page where the video plays?
No. A JW Player embed is not one of the links WhipScribe reads; the links that work are YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive and podcast feeds. Export the file from your library, or paste the video's YouTube or Vimeo link if it is also published there.
The exported file is large. Will the upload accept it?
Uploads up to 2 GB work before you buy anything, and a file between 2 and 5 GB starts once a pack is on the account. If the video is longer than 10 hours, split it into two files at a natural break.
Which languages can a hosted video be in?
99 languages are detected automatically, so a panel in Spanish or Portuguese needs no setting. A video that switches language is transcribed on its main language.
Who handles the video, and what do I get back?
Hosted videos you send are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the video and its text at any time. Download the panel as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, so the captions and the article draft come from the same run. Nothing you upload is shared with other customers or published anywhere.
