Transcribe a recorded Keynote slideshow once it is a movie file.
To transcribe a Keynote slideshow you recorded with voiceover, export it as a movie, usually a QuickTime file, and upload it here; a three-hour recorded workshop is ready in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and 180 minutes of voiceover is part of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Nothing is installed in Keynote: WhipScribe works on the movie you export.
From Keynote to text
Keynote holds the voiceover inside the presentation. A movie export sets it free.
Export the recording as a movie
A recorded slideshow lives inside the .key file, so first export it: Keynote's export menu offers a movie option, and the result is usually a QuickTime movie (MOV) or an M4V depending on the format you pick. Make sure the export uses the recorded timing, otherwise the slides advance on their own clock and the voiceover may be left out. Check the export settings before starting a long render.
Size the movie to the job
A voiceover over still slides needs no 4K. Choosing a smaller resolution in the export dialog keeps a three-hour workshop light enough to upload quickly, and the speech is identical at any picture size. Movies up to 2 GB upload before any pack is bought, and a heavier one begins once a pack is on the account.
What a semester of Keynote lectures costs
Ten recorded lectures of two hours each come to 1,200 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes with 800 left for revisions. One three-hour workshop takes 180 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack. Packs are one-time purchases, with nothing renewing each month.
Drop it in, read the whole talk
Put the movie on upload page and the voiceover comes back as one transcript, time-coded from the first slide onward. Transition sounds and background music on title slides are not transcribed; the spoken presentation is.
Where Keynote recordings stall
The slideshow replays exactly as recorded. Finding one sentence in three hours of it does not.
✗ Replaying the slideshow
Voiceover tied to a .key file is easy to watch and hard to work from.
- Playing the deck again to hear a single phrase
- Presenter notes that drifted from the live delivery
- The Whisper API's 25 MB limit, tiny next to a movie export
- Trimming the movie into pieces for short-file tools
- Separate timestamps for every piece
- Figures quoted aloud with no written record
✓ Reading the voiceover
The full recording as text, with a timestamp at every line.
- One movie in, one transcript out
- Chapters at each change of section
- Every name, number and date gathered together
- Questions the presentation answers, set out
- A chat to ask where a claim was made
- SRT or VTT to caption the published movie

FAQ
Keynote recordings, answered.
How quickly is a three-hour Keynote recording transcribed?
Expect about 6 minutes, since processing takes roughly 2 minutes for every hour of voiceover. A one-hour recorded talk returns in about 2.
Which file do I upload: the .key or the movie?
The movie. The .key file is a presentation package rather than an audio or video file, so export a movie and upload that. If the slideshow is already on YouTube or Vimeo, pasting the link works instead.
What do ten recorded lectures cost?
Ten two-hour lectures add up to 1,200 minutes, so the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes is the right size. A lone three-hour workshop fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A first visit gets the first 20 minutes free, and the pack continues from where the preview ended.
Is there a Keynote plug-in or Mac app connection?
No. WhipScribe has no integration with Keynote and adds nothing to your Mac. It reads the exported movie you upload, and nothing else in the presentation.
Can a recording over 10 hours be sent?
Keynote exports can be as long as 10 hours or as heavy as 5 GB per file, whichever limit comes first. Beyond that, send the recording as two files, each with its own transcript and timeline.
Which exports and languages are there, and who sees my recording?
Your Keynote transcript downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Any of 99 languages is detected without a setting, and the people speaking are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Recordings are processed on our own servers and are never used to train models.
