From a chat thread to a page

Forty voice messages are hard to follow by ear. On a page they read like a letter.

Saving the audio

How you save a voice message depends on the app and its version. On a computer, the message's menu in the browser may offer a download; on a phone, the option is often missing. Meta's account tools also let you download a copy of your information, which can include message audio, so check what that export contains. The saved files are often MP4 or M4A audio.

One file or many

Every message you upload gets its own transcript. To read a long thread as one document, join the messages in order with any audio editor and export a single file; it keeps one timeline. The box here takes files up to 500 MB, and larger exports continue on upload page, still up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

A long thread, priced

Thirty messages averaging four minutes come to 120 minutes and use the $6 pack of 500, with plenty left. A family archive of 300 such messages, 1,200 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000.

What the brief shows

The brief collects what the thread was about, the names, numbers and dates mentioned, and the questions it settled. The people talking are named in the summary and key quotes, and the chat finds the message where an address or a time was given.

Voice threads elsewhere

Voice messages are quick to send and slow to find again.

✗ Inside the chat

Scroll, tap, listen, repeat.

  • Replaying a dozen messages for one detail
  • No search inside voice messages
  • OpenAI's Whisper API limits uploads to 25 MB
  • Context lost between short clips
  • Messages that may disappear with the chat
  • Nothing to keep alongside the audio

✓ Saved and transcribed

The thread as text you keep.

  • Two hours back in about 4 minutes
  • 30 messages on the $6 pack
  • One joined file, one timeline
  • Addresses, dates and times listed
  • TXT to keep, DOCX to edit
  • Chat over the whole thread

FAQ

Messenger voice messages, the common questions.

Can I paste a Messenger link instead?

No. Links work for YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick, Google Drive and podcast feeds. A voice message has to be saved as a file first, or put in a Google Drive folder and shared as a Drive link.

How long does it take?

About 2 minutes per hour of audio. A single short message finishes in seconds, and a two-hour joined thread in about 4 minutes.

Should I join the messages first?

Only if you want one document. Separate uploads give one transcript per message; a joined file gives one transcript with timestamps across the whole thread.

What does it cost?

The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, so a few short messages may cost nothing. A longer file is previewed, and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest. Packs are one-time and credits never expire.

Do I need consent to transcribe someone's messages?

Treat their voice messages as you would their letters: transcribe them for your own use, and ask before sharing the text.

What formats and privacy apply?

You can download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Every file is transcribed on our own servers, and none is ever used for training. WhipScribe has no connection to Messenger and never sees your chats.
