OpenPhone download · about 2 min per audio hour · first 20 min free

Transcribe a long OpenPhone call the whole conversation, not just the gist.

A 2-hour OpenPhone call recording is transcribed in about 4 minutes once you download it from the app and upload it here, with each file allowed up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes are free, and the call uses 120 of the 500 minutes in a $6 pack. WhipScribe has no OpenPhone integration and no bot on the line; it works from the recording you save.

From the OpenPhone app to text

The recording is attached to the call in your app. Save it, and the transcript is minutes away.

Saving the recording

When call recording is on, OpenPhone attaches the recording to the call in the conversation thread, and the desktop or web app usually offers a download from there. The file is commonly an audio file such as an MP3; if a download option does not show, your role or the workspace settings may restrict it.

Upload from desktop or phone

Drop the saved file in the box above, from a computer or from the files on your phone. A two-hour call at 64 kilobits per second is about 58 MB, quick to upload on most connections. Files larger than the box takes continue on the upload page, up to 5 GB.

Client calls, priced

Six 75-minute client calls add up to 450 minutes, inside the $6 pack of 500. A consultant who records about thirty hours of calls a month, 1,800 minutes, is better served by the $12 pack of 2,000, and either pack's leftover minutes stay on the account.

What the call turns into

A brief of what the call settled, chapters with timestamps and every name, number and date mentioned. Both sides of the call are identified and named in the summary and chapters, and the chat can tell you which deadline the client asked for.

Where OpenPhone recordings stall

The recording is one tap away. The answer inside it is two hours away.

✗ Audio attached to a thread

The call is saved, but finding one detail means listening again.

  • A two-hour call replayed for a single figure
  • Notes typed while trying to listen
  • An audio file past a 25 MB API limit
  • Splitting the call to suit a free tool
  • Scope questions settled by memory
  • A paid add-on for a handful of long calls

✓ The full call, on the page

One upload turns the conversation into text you can search and paste from.

  • Two hours of call in about 4 minutes
  • An opening 20 minutes without charge
  • 120 of 500 pack minutes per 2-hour call
  • Chapters to jump to the scope discussion
  • A chat that finds the agreed deadline
  • DOCX to send as call notes

00:01:50 Before we get into the redesign, can we agree on what is in scope for the first phase?
00:33:15 Phase one is the booking flow and the confirmation emails. The member area waits until spring.
01:17:40 If the booking flow slips, we'd rather keep the date and drop the email templates.
01:52:05 Fine. Booking flow by the fifteenth, templates after, and I'll write that up today.

FAQ

OpenPhone recordings, answered.

How long does a 2-hour OpenPhone call take?

About 4 minutes after uploading, at about 2 minutes of processing per audio hour. A 30-minute call takes about one minute, so a whole afternoon of calls is ready before you have refilled your coffee.

What do OpenPhone calls cost to transcribe?

A first visit gives your OpenPhone calls 20 free minutes. Calls totalling up to 500 minutes fit the $6 pack, up to 2,000 minutes the $12 pack, and up to 5,000 the $24 pack. Packs are paid once in US dollars, and their minutes never run out on a date.

Where is the download in OpenPhone?

In the conversation where the recorded call appears, usually from the desktop or web app. If you cannot download, an admin may have limited recording access, so ask them to export the call for you.

How large or long can an OpenPhone recording be?

A file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before the first pack, uploads are capped at 2 GB, and larger files start once a pack is bought. A phone call would need to run for days to reach either limit.

Do I need the caller's consent to record?

You need whatever consent the law where you and the caller are located requires, which OpenPhone's recording announcement can help with. WhipScribe only transcribes recordings you are entitled to upload.

Which exports, and is the call kept private?

OpenPhone calls export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. OpenPhone recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. The language is detected automatically from 99, and a call that mixes English and Tagalog is handled.
