SpeechLive · download, then upload

Transcribe a long Philips SpeechLive dictation and give the typist a draft, not a pedal.

To transcribe a long Philips SpeechLive dictation, download the recording from your SpeechLive account and upload the audio file here; an hour of dictation is ready in about 2 minutes, and one file can run to 10 hours or 5 GB. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes covers a full eight-hour week of dictation with 20 minutes to spare.

From the cloud queue to text

Long dictations come back as a draft before the typist reaches them.

Getting the file out of SpeechLive

SpeechLive keeps dictations in the cloud, and the author or the assigned typist can usually download a dictation from the web app. Depending on your settings the download may arrive as a DS2 or DSS file rather than MP3 or WAV, so look at the file name before you upload. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first, then drop it in the box above or send it from the upload page.

No connection between the two services

WhipScribe has no integration with SpeechLive and no plugin inside it. Nothing reads your account, your authors or your workflow queue: you pick the dictation, download it yourself and hand over that one file. Your SpeechLive routing, priorities and typist assignments carry on exactly as before.

Long sessions, modest files

Dictation is recorded for the voice alone, so even a long session makes a small file. The ceiling that matters is 10 hours per file, and a single dictation that long is rare. Before your first pack, any upload up to 2 GB is accepted, which no ordinary dictation comes near.

What the dictation turns into

The recording comes back with a brief of its main points, chapters with timestamps, and the names, sums and dates the author read out, listed together. Export DOCX to start the finished document or TXT to paste into your own template, and use the chat to ask what the author said about a particular item.

Why long dictations stall

A queue built for short letters meets a two-hour report.

✗ Typing from playback

A long dictation in a typing queue means hours with a foot pedal before anyone can read a line of it.

  • A two-hour report waiting behind short letters
  • Pedal, rewind, pedal again for every clause
  • Dictated figures checked by ear
  • A DS2 file that general tools refuse
  • No way to search what was dictated last week
  • Names spelt by guesswork

✓ A draft to correct

Download, upload, and the typist starts from text instead of from silence.

  • An hour of dictation back in about 2 minutes
  • Chapters for each section the author dictated
  • Names, amounts and dates in one list
  • A $6 pack of 500 minutes that never expires
  • DOCX ready for the office template
  • A file up to 10 hours in one go

FAQ

SpeechLive dictations, the common questions.

How long does a long SpeechLive dictation take?

Processing runs at about 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a 90-minute dictation is ready in around 3 minutes and a full eight hours in about 16. Downloading from SpeechLive and uploading here usually take less time still, because dictation files are small.

What does a week or a month of dictation cost?

Eight hours is 480 minutes, which the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers with 20 left. An office dictating around 30 hours a month needs 1,800 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000. Credits never expire, so a quiet month costs nothing extra.

Will the upload accept a DS2 file?

It may not. If the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first, using the Philips desktop software if you have it or another converter that reads DS2. An encrypted dictation has to be opened by its owner before it can be converted.

Is there a cap on size or length for a dictation?

Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever comes first, and before the first pack the limit is 2 GB. A dictation that runs past 10 hours is uploaded as two files, split at a natural pause.

Which dictation languages does it recognise?

99 languages are detected automatically from the speech, so a dictation in Spanish, Swedish or Japanese needs no setting. A dictation that switches language part way through is detected on its main language.

What can I download, and where does the dictation audio go?

The text downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. SpeechLive dictations sent here are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
