Transcribe a long recording from Proton Drive you decrypt it, we transcribe it.
To transcribe a long recording kept in Proton Drive, download it from your drive or from the share link, which decrypts it on your device, and upload that file here; a two-hour interview is text in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and eight such interviews, 960 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
Encrypted storage, readable text
You kept it private on purpose. Keep it that way here.
Why the link cannot be pasted
Proton Drive encrypts files end to end, so a share link only becomes a playable file once your browser or the Proton Drive app decrypts it. WhipScribe does not fetch Proton links. Open the file, choose Download, and upload the decrypted copy; if the share link has a password, you will need it before the download starts.
What happens to the copy you upload
Once a recording leaves Proton Drive, it is no longer covered by Proton's encryption, so you should know where it goes. The copy you upload is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. When you have your exports, delete the recording and its transcript from your Library.
Interviews in a series
A research or oral-history project usually means many long files. Each one goes up as its own upload and gets its own brief and chapters, which keeps one interviewee's words apart from the next. The box above takes one file at a time; the upload page is easier when the list is long.
The arithmetic for a project
Two hours is 120 minutes, ready about 4 minutes after uploading. Eight interviews of that length are 960 minutes, which the $12 pack of 2,000 covers with 1,040 left for follow-ups. Credits never expire, so a project that pauses for a month loses nothing.
Where confidential recordings stall
The recording is safe. It is also unread.
✗ Kept encrypted, never transcribed
Sensitive interviews often sit untouched because typing them is slow.
- Each interview typed by hand over days
- Free tools with unclear training terms
- Sessions split to fit a short upload limit
- Quotes copied by ear and misremembered
- No timestamps to check a statement
- A deadline that keeps slipping
✓ Downloaded, uploaded, deleted
The interview as text, and the file gone when you say so.
- Two hours done in about 4 minutes
- Transcribed on servers we run ourselves
- Never used for training
- Interviewees named in the brief's summary and quotes
- Chapters for each theme
- Deleted with one action afterwards

FAQ
Proton Drive recordings, the common questions.
How long does a two-hour recording from Proton Drive take?
About 4 minutes after the upload, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A full day of eight hours takes around 16 minutes.
How much does an interview series cost?
Eight two-hour interviews are 960 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. A single two-hour interview uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. On your first recording, the opening 20 minutes cost nothing.
Does WhipScribe connect to my Proton account?
No. There is no connection to Proton Drive and nothing to sign in to. You download the file yourself and choose what to upload.
Is there a size limit on what I download?
Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB; before your first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB. Interview audio is small, so most recordings are far below both.
What if the interview is not in English?
Yes. Ninety-nine languages are recognised without a setting. If the interviewee switches between languages, the recording is detected on its main language and the switches are handled.
Can I use the transcript as an official record?
It is an AI transcript to work from, not a certified or official transcript, and nothing on this page is legal advice. Download it as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON and review it against the audio where exact wording matters.
