USB/XLR podcast mic · 2 h in about 4 min

Transcribe long podcast episodes recorded on a RØDE PodMic USB from the raw take or the published feed.

A 2-hour episode recorded on a RØDE PodMic USB comes back as text in about 4 minutes, whether you upload the exported file or paste the show's RSS link after it is published. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and four 2-hour episodes a month make 480 minutes, which the $6 pack of 500 covers.

From the booth to the show notes

The PodMic gives you the voice. The episode file, raw or published, gives us everything we need.

Raw file or published feed

Before release, export the episode from whatever program recorded it; it is usually a WAV or an MP3, but check the export settings. After release, paste the podcast's RSS feed or episode link instead, and the audio is fetched for you with no download. Either route gives the same text.

USB today, XLR tomorrow

The PodMic USB works over USB into a computer or over XLR into a mixer or interface. Either way the microphone keeps no recording; the computer, the mixer or the recorder does. Find that device's output folder and upload the finished mix rather than a single raw channel.

Show notes, mostly drafted

A long episode returns with a brief of its thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps you can paste into the episode description, and the names, books and dates mentioned. Host and guest are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, which is most of a show-notes draft before editing.

Pricing a month of shows

Four weekly 2-hour episodes are 480 minutes, which fits the $6 pack of 500 with 20 to spare. A full year of weekly shows is 6,240 minutes, beyond one $24 pack of 5,000, so that pack covers about 41 episodes, and the credits wait between seasons.

Long episodes elsewhere

Recording a two-hour conversation is the fun part. Writing it up is the part that slips a week.

✗ What usually happens

The episode is out; the notes are not.

  • OpenAI's Whisper API refusing episodes over 25 MB
  • Episode notes typed up from memory
  • Chapter times found by scrubbing
  • Guest quotes verified by replaying the episode
  • Long episodes split to fit an upload
  • Back catalogue never transcribed

✓ Here

One file or one feed link becomes notes and captions.

  • RSS links fetched without a download
  • A 2-hour episode ready in roughly 4 minutes
  • Chapter times for the episode description
  • Key quotes with host and guest named
  • A free 20-minute preview first
  • Credits that carry across seasons

FAQ

RØDE PodMic USB recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2-hour PodMic episode take?

About 4 minutes. A three-hour roundtable recorded on the same mic is ready in roughly 6.

What does a 12-episode season cost?

On a first visit, the first 20 minutes of the episode are free. Twelve 2-hour episodes are 1,440 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000, leaving 560, and minutes never expire, so a gap between seasons costs nothing. For a team recording every week, the $19 monthly Workspace is the other option.

Can I paste the published episode instead of uploading?

Yes. Podcast RSS feeds and episode links go in as links, as do YouTube and Vimeo uploads of the video version. Episodes hosted elsewhere are downloaded first, then uploaded.

My raw WAV is very large. Will it fit?

A file may be 10 hours or 5 GB, and 2 GB before your first pack. A two-hour stereo WAV at 48 kHz and 16-bit is about 1.4 GB, so it fits; a 128 kbps MP3 of the same episode is about 115 MB.

Can a PodMic show be in a language other than English?

Yes: the language is picked up automatically from 99. A Korean or Tagalog show with English terms dropped in is detected on its main language.

What files come back, and what happens to the audio?

You get TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON for each episode. Each episode is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. There is no plug-in for your recording software; you send the file or the link.
