Phone wireless mic · Drive link or file · 2.5 h in about 5 min

Transcribe long interviews recorded with a RØDE Wireless Micro straight from the phone that filmed them.

A 2.5-hour interview recorded on a phone through a RØDE Wireless Micro comes back as text in about 5 minutes, sent as a file or as a Google Drive share link. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit and the 150 minutes use a $6 pack of 500, though phone video that long is often several gigabytes, so the audio alone or a Drive link is the easier route.

From the phone to the page

The clip-on mics feed the phone. The interview is wherever the phone saved it.

Finding the recording

The Wireless Micro receiver plugs into the phone, so the sound lands in whichever app was recording: the camera app puts a video in the photo library or gallery, and an audio or video app keeps its own folder. Share the file to Files or to Google Drive from there; the app's own menus show where its recordings go.

Two mics, one track

With two transmitters on one receiver, the interviewer and the guest usually end up in the same phone recording, so one upload covers the conversation. If the app saved the two mics on separate channels, the transcript still reads both, and nothing needs splitting.

Why the video gets heavy

Many phones record 1080p video at something near 60 MB a minute, so 150 minutes is around 9 GB, beyond the 5 GB a file may be; your camera settings show your phone's own figure. Upload a Google Drive link to the video, export the audio alone, or record long interviews in an audio app from the start.

Interview to story

The interview returns with a brief of the main points, chapters with timestamps, and the names, places and dates mentioned. Interviewer and guest are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and each quote carries the time you need to find it in the clip.

Long phone interviews elsewhere

Clip-on mics make the sound clean. A phone video that long is the next problem.

✗ What usually happens

The voices are clear; the file is stuck on the phone.

  • The OpenAI Whisper API refuses audio over 25 MB
  • Phone uploads that stall halfway
  • A 9 GB video refused for size
  • Quotes found by scrubbing the clip
  • The interview cut into short parts
  • Names and places spelled from memory

✓ Here

A Drive link or the audio track becomes the full interview as text.

  • Drive links fetched for you
  • Roughly 5 minutes for the whole interview
  • Both mics read from one recording
  • Quotes timed to the original video
  • The first 20 minutes before any pack
  • Captions for the cut as SRT

FAQ

RØDE Wireless Micro recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2.5-hour Wireless Micro interview take?

About 5 minutes of processing, because each hour of sound takes about 2. Uploading a large video from a phone may take longer than that, which is why a Drive link helps.

What does a 150-minute interview cost?

The first 20 minutes of a first-visit interview are free. The 150 minutes come from the $6 pack of 500 with 350 left over, and a series of twelve such interviews is 1,800 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000.

The video is too big to upload. What now?

Put it in Google Drive with link sharing on and paste the link, or export the audio track as an MP3, which is about 58 MB an hour at 128 kbps. A file must be 5 GB or less, and 2 GB or less before your first pack.

Should I split the interview into parts?

Not unless it is longer than 10 hours. One file keeps one clock, so the timestamps match the original video in your editor.

Does the interview have to be in English?

Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, and an interview that moves between English and Tagalog is handled on its main language.

What do I download, and where does the interview go?

The interview downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. A Wireless Micro interview is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training. The mics and their app have no connection to WhipScribe; you hand over the file or link.
