Class periods and review sessions · K-12 and college · minutes, not hours

Transcribe a Schoology class recording from a single period to a long review.

A class or review session posted in Schoology turns into a transcript in about 4 minutes for 2 hours of audio, and a 50-minute period takes under 2. The first 20 minutes are free, and ten 2-hour review sessions, 1,200 minutes in all, fit the $12 pack of 2,000. There is no Schoology integration: you save the recording the course lets you save, then upload it here.

Packs from $6, credits never expire · then from $0.36/hour · Credits never expire · Never used to train AI
✓A 50-minute period in under 2 min · ✓Files as large as 5 GB · ✓From $6, credits kept forever · ✓Class videos train no model

From the course page to a document

Schoology keeps the recording with the course. You want to read it.

Saving the recording

Teachers attach class videos to course materials or media albums in Schoology, and whether students can save a copy depends on how the teacher and the school set it up. If a download option is there, save the file; if not, ask the teacher. Saved class videos are usually MP4s.

Videos posted as links

A teacher who uploads lessons to YouTube or Vimeo and links them from Schoology has done the hard part. Paste that link into upload page and nothing needs downloading, as long as the video opens for you.

For teachers with a term of videos

Teachers own their recordings and can transcribe a whole unit at once. Thirty 50-minute lessons are 1,500 minutes on the $12 pack, and the DOCX export becomes a handout for students who were away.

Room sound in a classroom

Recordings made with a laptop at the front of a room pick up the teacher clearly and students less so. Desks, bells and hallway noise are not transcribed; the speech is, and a question the teacher repeats lands cleanly at its timestamp.

Why a class video is hard to study from

Fifty minutes of video hides one formula. Text shows it at a glance.

✗ Studying from video alone

Rewinding and pausing until the board work makes sense.

  • Rewatching to copy one worked problem
  • A long file over the 25 MB limit on the Whisper API
  • Separate parts with clocks that restart
  • Students who were away get only video
  • No search across a unit
  • A recurring bill for one term of classes

✓ Studying from the transcript

Every period in order, searchable and timed.

  • Under 2 minutes for a class period
  • Chapters per problem or topic
  • Numbers, dates and terms listed
  • Ask the transcript to explain a step
  • A DOCX handout per lesson
  • Captions for the class video

Sample

A recorded review session from a Schoology course.

This illustrative sample was written for the page and comes from no real class. Its timestamps sit within a 2-hour review session.

00:02:15 Okay, this is the review for Friday's unit test. I'll post the recording in Schoology after class.
00:31:48 Number seven. Set up the two equations first, then subtract, and you get x equals four.
00:52:03 Will the test have the graphing questions like the homework?
00:52:09 Two of them, yes. The rest look like the practice sheet.
01:58:30 Last thing: bring a calculator and a pencil. No phones on the desk.

FAQ

Schoology recordings, answered.

How long does a 2-hour review session take?

Close to 4 minutes, two for each hour of audio. A 50-minute period is done in under 2 minutes.

What does a unit or a term of recordings cost?

Ten 2-hour review sessions are 1,200 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. A single 50-minute period uses 50 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack. If you are new here, the first 20 minutes are free and a pack picks up from where the preview stopped.

Is a student allowed to transcribe a class video?

Transcribe what your teacher lets you download, for your own study. WhipScribe does not connect to Schoology and cannot open a recording you could not already save.

How big a file can I send, and should I cut it?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB in one file, and up to 2 GB before your first pack. Do not cut a class into parts; one file keeps one set of timestamps.

Does it work for language classes?

Yes: the language is detected automatically, among 99. A Spanish or Japanese class comes back in its main language, and a lesson that switches between two languages is handled in one recording.

Which exports, and who can see the recording?

Each class exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Class videos sent here are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Follow your school's rules before passing a transcript on.
