Transcribe a Google Classroom recording straight from its Drive link.
A class recording posted in Google Classroom is almost always a file in Google Drive, so you can paste its share link here and read a 3-hour class in about 6 minutes, with the first 20 minutes free. Three hours is 180 minutes, which leaves 320 of the 500 in a $6 pack. WhipScribe is not connected to Classroom; it reads the Drive file the link points to, provided the link opens for you.
How the recording reaches us
Classroom posts the link. Drive holds the file.
Where Meet class recordings land
When a teacher records a class in Google Meet, the video is saved to the organiser's Google Drive, typically in a folder called Meet Recordings, and the teacher can attach it to a Classroom post. Open the attachment and copy its share link.
When the link stays inside the school
Many school accounts limit sharing to people in the same domain. If the link will not open for upload page, download the file from Drive (it is usually an MP4) and upload it instead. Only transcribe a class the teacher has shared with you.
A whole folder at once
If a teacher keeps every session in one Drive folder, paste the folder link and each recording is picked up as its own transcript, each with its own chapters and timestamps.
What a term of classes costs
Five 45-minute periods a week are 225 minutes, so two weeks of recorded classes fit the $6 pack at 450 minutes. Eighteen weeks of a 3-hour weekly class come to 3,240 minutes, which is a $24 pack of 5,000.
Why Classroom recordings sit unwatched
A Meet recording of a three-hour class is easy to post and hard to revisit.
✗ Video and nothing else
The recording is there, but finding one explanation in it means scrubbing.
- Watching an hour to find one example
- Downloading gigabytes just to share it
- A clip-sized tool that refuses a long class
- Notes that skip what a classmate asked
- Absent students left with only video
- Nothing to search before a test
✓ With one here
The class as text, with every topic placed in time.
- Paste the Drive link and wait minutes
- Chapters wherever the topic changes
- Dates, page numbers and names listed
- A chat that answers from the class
- DOCX handouts for absent students
- SRT or VTT to caption the video

FAQ
Google Classroom recordings, answered.
How quickly is a 3-hour class transcribed?
Roughly 6 minutes; each hour of audio takes about 2. A 45-minute period is back in under 2 minutes once the Drive file is fetched.
What do a term's recordings cost?
Ten 45-minute periods, two weeks at five a week, are 450 minutes and fit the $6 pack of 500. A semester of 3-hour weekly classes, 3,240 minutes, needs the $24 pack of 5,000. On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free and the pack continues from where the preview stopped.
The Drive link says I need access. What now?
The link must open for someone outside your school's account. If sharing is limited to the domain, download the recording from Drive and upload the file; files up to 2 GB go through before your first pack, and up to 5 GB after it.
Do I need to cut a long class recording?
No. A single file can run up to 10 hours, far longer than any class. Past 10 hours, send it as two files.
Which class languages are recognised?
Any of 99 languages, recognised automatically. A Spanish or Tagalog class comes back in that language, and a lesson that moves between English and Tagalog is handled in one recording.
What exports come back, and is the class kept private?
Classes download as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. A class you send is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training, and you can delete it whenever you like.
