Transcribe Screencastify lessons straight from the Drive link.
When a Screencastify lesson is saved to Google Drive, paste its share link here and it is transcribed without a download. A 45-minute lesson comes back in about 2 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and a 90-lesson semester of 3,600 minutes fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.
Recorded in Chrome, read anywhere
Screencastify puts lessons in Drive. The transcript can start from the same place.
Paste the lesson's Drive link
Screencastify has long saved recordings to a Screencastify folder in Google Drive. Set the file's sharing to anyone with the link, copy that link and paste it into the box; nothing needs to be downloaded or uploaded again. If the link opens a sign-in page in a private window, the sharing setting is still restricted.
A whole unit from one folder
A Google Drive folder link brings in every lesson inside it, so a unit of fifteen recordings can be queued at once. Each lesson comes back as its own transcript with its own chapters.
Downloaded copies work too
If your version keeps lessons in its own library, download the video, usually an MP4 or WEBM, and drop it on the upload page. A 45-minute lesson at 1 Mbps is 1 times 2,700 seconds divided by 8, or about 340 MB.
Study notes and captions
Each lesson returns a brief with the key points, chapters that follow the slides, and the terms, numbers and dates said aloud. SRT and VTT files give students captions, and the chat answers questions about the lesson. A student who missed the lesson can read it in a few minutes instead of watching it again.
Lesson recordings elsewhere
The lessons are already in Drive. Downloading each one just to upload it again wastes the evening.
✗ The slow way
Lessons pile up in a Drive folder with no text attached.
- Downloading every lesson one by one
- Re-uploading the same files elsewhere
- Captions typed for each video
- Students asking what was said at minute 30
- No notes for absent students
- A paid plan for one term of lessons
✓ From the Drive folder
Paste a link, get every lesson back as text.
- Drive links for single lessons or folders
- About 2 minutes per 45-minute lesson
- Chapters that track each slide
- SRT and VTT captions for students
- The opening 20 lesson minutes at no cost
- $24 for a whole semester

FAQ
Screencastify lessons: questions from teachers.
How fast does a Screencastify lesson come back?
A 45-minute lesson takes about 2 minutes, since the rate is close to 2 minutes per audio hour. Longer recordings scale the same way; the proof page shows 2.48 hours in 200 seconds.
What does a semester of lessons cost?
The first 20 minutes of your first lesson are free. Ninety lessons of 40 minutes are 3,600 minutes, on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 1,400 left. A single unit of fifteen 45-minute lessons (675 minutes) fits the $12 pack.
Is there a size limit, and should long recordings be split?
Each lesson can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and before a pack uploads go up to 2 GB. Lesson-length recordings never need splitting. A whole-day workshop recorded in one take, say six hours, also goes up as a single file.
Is this a Screencastify add-on?
No. WhipScribe has no integration with Screencastify and adds nothing to Chrome; it reads the saved recording afterwards, from a Drive link or a downloaded file. Download permissions belong to whoever owns the recording, so a student transcribes what the teacher has shared.
I teach in Spanish or Filipino. Is that supported?
Yes. The language is detected automatically across 99 languages, Spanish and Tagalog among them, and a lesson that switches between English and Tagalog is handled.
Which files come back, and who can see my lessons?
Lessons download as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Lessons are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
