Transcribe long episodes from a Tascam Mixcast 4 send the mix, not every track.
A 90-minute episode recorded on a Tascam Mixcast 4 comes back as text in about 3 minutes when you upload the stereo mix file from its card. The first 20 minutes are free, the episode uses 90 of the 500 minutes in a $6 pack, and a 10-episode season fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
From the console to the page
The Mixcast 4 can save the whole show and each input separately. One file is all you need here.
Pick the mix file
The Mixcast 4 is a podcast console that records to a memory card, and depending on how it was set, a session leaves a stereo mix next to separate input tracks. The mix already holds every host and guest at the levels you set on the faders, so it is the file to send. Check the recorder settings if you only see per-input files.
Why not upload each track
A track from one microphone holds one voice and long stretches of near-silence while others talk. Uploading four of them means four transcripts, each charged for the full 90 minutes, and none of them reads as a conversation. If the mix was not recorded, combine the tracks in an audio editor and upload that single file.
Size you can work out
If the console saved 24-bit, 48 kHz stereo, the mix grows by about 1.04 GB an hour (48,000 samples × 3 bytes × 2 channels × 3,600 seconds), so 90 minutes lands near 1.56 GB. That is under the 2 GB that uploads before any pack is bought. An MP3 export at 128 kbps would be about 86 MB for the same episode.
What the episode turns into
The text returns with a brief of the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps for your episode outline, and the names, numbers and dates the hosts mentioned for the links list. Hosts and guests are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Sound pads, jingles and music beds are not transcribed; the talking around them is.
Podcast console files elsewhere
A clean multitrack session is still a large file, and a long one gets turned away.
✗ What slows a long episode down
Good audio from the console, stuck at the upload step.
- The OpenAI Whisper API refuses anything over 25 MB
- Four input tracks sent as four jobs
- A WAV trimmed into parts to get it accepted
- Clocks that reset with each trimmed part
- Episode notes pieced together from memory
- Last season's episodes never written up
✓ One mix, one document
The episode goes up whole and comes back in order.
- The console's stereo mix, uploaded as saved
- Ninety minutes of talk back in about 3
- Hosts named in the chapters and quotes
- A first episode's opening 20 minutes at no cost
- A whole season on a $12 pack
- SRT and VTT ready for a video version

FAQ
Tascam Mixcast 4 recordings, the common questions.
How fast does a 90-minute Mixcast 4 episode come back?
In about 3 minutes, since processing runs at close to 2 minutes per hour of audio. On the proof page a file of 2.48 hours finished in 200 seconds.
What does a whole season cost?
Ten 90-minute episodes add up to 900 minutes, which the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers with 1,100 to spare. One episode alone fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Your first visit includes the first 20 minutes free, and credits never expire.
Do I send the mix or the separate input tracks?
Send the stereo mix. It has everyone in one file and costs the episode length once. Separate tracks are for editing; if the mix is missing, combine them in an editor before uploading.
How large can one episode file be?
A single episode file can hold 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever it reaches first. Before a first pack the limit is 2 GB per file, and a larger one starts once a pack is on the account. An episode longer than 10 hours goes up as two files.
Our show is not in English. Does that matter?
No. 99 languages are detected automatically, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Tagalog among them, and nothing needs to be chosen first. An episode that moves between English and Tagalog is handled.
Which files do I get back, and who listens to the episode?
One run gives you TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON together. Nobody outside the service handles your show: recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
