Transcribe long shows from a Zoom PodTrak P8 six microphones, one transcript.

A 2-hour roundtable recorded on a Zoom PodTrak P8 is text in about 4 minutes once you upload the stereo mix WAV the recorder saved beside the per-track files. The first 20 minutes are free, the 120 minutes sit on a $6 pack of 500, and twelve such episodes fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.

Many tracks in, one file out

The P8 writes a WAV per input and a mix of the whole table. Send the mix.

The folder for one take

Each recording on the P8 becomes a folder on the memory card holding a separate WAV per input plus a stereo mix of everything. Copy the folder to your computer, open it, and upload the mix file from upload page. The per-input files stay with you for editing.

Six people, six tracks

With six microphones, the input folder holds six files that each catch one voice clearly and the rest faintly. Transcribing them one by one costs six times the episode length and gives you six partial documents. The mix costs 120 minutes once and keeps the conversation in order.

A size check for two hours

At 16-bit, 48 kHz, a stereo mix runs about 691 MB an hour (48,000 × 2 bytes × 2 channels × 3,600 seconds), so two hours is roughly 1.38 GB and uploads before any pack. Recorded at 24-bit, the same mix is about 2.07 GB, which starts once a pack is on the account.

Notes for a crowded table

Roundtables are hard to summarise from memory because the good line came from the quiet guest at minute 74. The brief, the chapters and the key quotes name each person, so you can see who argued which side, and the chat finds a remark with its timestamp.

Roundtable recordings elsewhere

More microphones means more files, and most tools only want one small one.

✗ The extra work

The recorder did its job; the transcription step makes it hard.

  • A 25 MB ceiling on the OpenAI Whisper API
  • Six track files and no idea which to send
  • Paying six times for one conversation
  • Long WAVs cut up to squeeze under limits
  • Guest names guessed from voices
  • Episode notes left for later, then never

✓ The mix, transcribed once

One upload holds the whole table.

  • Stereo mix WAV accepted up to 5 GB
  • A two-hour table back in about 4 minutes
  • Each guest named in the key quotes
  • Chapters for each turn the table took
  • Opening 20 minutes of the show free
  • Twelve episodes on one $12 pack

00:01:05 Six of us tonight, so I will go around the table once and then we argue.
00:26:48 The library budget went up this year and nobody noticed because the opening hours went down.
01:14:20 I disagree with that completely, and I can say why in under a minute.
01:58:31 That is our time gone. Next month the table takes on the bus routes.

FAQ

Zoom PodTrak P8 recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2-hour P8 roundtable take to transcribe?

About 4 minutes. A longer session scales the same way: a 4.94-hour file on the proof page took 372 seconds.

What does a run of 2-hour episodes cost?

Twelve episodes of 120 minutes come to 1,440 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000 with 560 left over. A single episode fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes, and your first visit starts with the first 20 minutes free.

Which of the files in the take folder do I upload?

The stereo mix. The per-input WAVs are for editing each voice; the mix is the one that reads as a conversation and is charged once.

Is a long P8 WAV too large to upload?

A file up to 2 GB uploads before you buy anything. After a pack is on the account the limit is 5 GB or 10 hours per file. A session past 10 hours needs two files.

Can the guests speak different languages?

The recording is detected on its main language, from 99 detected automatically. Switches between English and Tagalog in one conversation are handled; a show in Japanese or Swedish needs no setting.

What exports are there, and is the show kept private?

Downloads come as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON for every episode. On privacy, the short answer: recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
