Transcribe long Voice Record Pro sessions whatever format you recorded in.
A long session recorded in Voice Record Pro on an iPhone can be exported and uploaded here, and four hours of audio come back as text in about 8 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and two 4-hour sessions fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Export, upload, read
The format choice that kept the session small also makes it quick to send.
Getting the session off the phone
Voice Record Pro lets you export a recording to Files or to cloud storage you have connected. Check the export options in your version for the destinations it lists. Once the file is in Files or Google Drive, upload it on upload page; a Google Drive share link can be pasted instead.
Size by format, worked out
MP3 at 128 kbps is 128,000 bits a second, which is 57.6 MB per hour, so four hours come to about 230 MB. A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz mono WAV is 88.2 KB a second, about 318 MB per hour, or roughly 1.3 GB for four hours. Both sit under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack.
Two sessions per $6
Four hours are 240 minutes, so two sessions use 480 of the 500 minutes on the $6 pack. If you record every week, the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes holds eight 4-hour sessions with 80 minutes left.
What you read afterwards
The transcript comes with a brief of the session's main points, chapters with timestamps, and the questions the recording answers. Export DOCX for a write-up or SRT if the audio becomes a video. Researchers who record long interviews can quote passages with the exact time they were said, which makes checking a quote against the audio quick.

FAQ
Voice Record Pro sessions, the common questions.
How quickly is a 4-hour session done?
About 8 minutes, since processing is about 2 minutes per audio hour. The public proof page lists 4.94 hours done in 372 seconds.
What do four hours cost?
The first 20 minutes come free on a first visit; a longer session is previewed and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. Four hours are 240 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Which format should I record in?
Any of the common ones work. MP3 or AAC keeps a long session small; WAV is larger but transcribes the same. Should the upload ever refuse a file, convert it to MP3 and try again.
What if a session runs over 10 hours?
Split it into two files, since each upload can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Anything shorter goes as a single file with one set of timestamps.
Do I need permission to record an interview?
Yes: recording someone needs the consent the law where you are requires, so ask before you press record. The language is detected automatically from 99 supported.
Which exports are there, and what happens to the session audio?
The session exports to TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and nothing stays once you delete it.
