Remote interviews · download, then upload · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe long remote interviews recorded in Welder and quote your guests by name.

Welder lets you download a remote interview once it is recorded, so a long conversation is transcribed by uploading that download, usually an MP4 or an audio file, up to 10 hours or 5 GB. A 3-hour interview returns in about 6 minutes, with the first 20 minutes free and 160 minutes left for the $6 pack of 500 minutes.

Choosing what to download

A remote interview may come out as one mix or as a track per guest. For a transcript, the mix is usually the better start.

The mixed recording

One file with everyone's voice gives one transcript of the whole conversation, with the guests identified and named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters. Check Welder's download options for a mixed file.

Separate tracks

A track per person can be uploaded too, and each one is transcribed on its own. That helps when one guest's microphone was far better than the rest, but every track spends minutes.

Audio is enough

If the download is video, the audio alone gives the same words at a fraction of the size: a 3-hour MP3 at 128 kbps is about 173 MB. That uploads quickly even on a slow connection, and well inside the 2 GB allowed before a pack.

Episode notes from the brief

The brief gives the conversation's thesis and takeaways, and the names, numbers and dates your guest mentioned are listed, so the episode page starts half written. The questions the interview answers are listed too, which makes a ready outline for a follow-up conversation.

After the interview

Three hours with a guest leaves one great answer you cannot find again.

✗ Audio only

The interview is safe, and nobody wants to scrub it.

  • Guest quotes rebuilt from memory
  • Guests' names spelled wrong in the notes
  • The OpenAI Whisper API refusing files over 25 MB
  • A long conversation split into thirds
  • Episode notes written by relistening
  • Timestamps guessed for the description

✓ Audio plus text

Upload once, edit from the text.

  • Three hours back in about six minutes
  • Guests named beside their quotes
  • Chapters with timestamps
  • Names and figures listed for fact-checking
  • An SRT for the edited video
  • Ten long episodes on a $12 pack

00:02:30 Thank you for making the time. We have three hours booked, so there is no rush on any answer.
00:55:12 The turning point was a small grant in the second year; without it we would have stopped.
01:48:40 Can I push back on that? I think you are being too modest about what the team did.
02:57:15 Last question, the one I ask everyone: what would you tell yourself ten years ago?

FAQ

Welder interviews, answered.

Is WhipScribe connected to Welder?

No. Download the recording from Welder and upload it here; WhipScribe has no integration with Welder, and no bot joins your sessions. It works on the recording afterwards, so nothing changes about how you run the interview.

How long until a 3-hour interview is ready?

About 6 minutes, at around 2 minutes per hour of audio. The 2.48-hour public run on the proof page took 200 seconds.

What does a season of interviews cost?

The opening 20 minutes are free on a first visit. One 3-hour interview is 180 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A season of ten 100-minute episodes, 1,000 minutes, fits the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.

Where do the guests' names appear?

Guests are identified and named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters, which is where a show page or a pull quote needs them. The transcript itself is plain timestamped text, so any quote can be checked against the audio.

The interview ran over two days and more than 10 hours.

Send each day as a file of its own. Anything under 10 hours and 5 GB goes in one piece; before the first pack, files are limited to 2 GB.

Which exports come back, and where is the interview processed?

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, from any of 99 languages detected automatically. Each interview is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training.
