Transcribe a long Whereby recording cloud or local, WebM or MP4.
A Whereby recording of one to three hours is transcribed in about 2 to 6 minutes: download the cloud recording or take the local file from your computer, then upload it here, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. A 2-hour session uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack's 500 after the first 20 minutes free. Whereby has no WhipScribe integration; the file is all that is needed.
Where the Whereby file is
A browser meeting still leaves a file behind. Find it, then upload it.
Cloud or local
On plans that include cloud recording, Whereby keeps the recording in the account for the host to download. Otherwise a local recording is saved by the browser straight to the computer of the person who pressed record, often as a WebM file. Either one uploads as it is; if the upload refuses the file, convert it to MP3 first.
Keep the tab open while it records
A local browser recording is written while the meeting runs, so closing the tab or letting the laptop sleep can cut a long session short. For a two-hour workshop, plug the laptop in, keep the tab in front, and check that the saved file plays to the end before uploading it.
Size by the numbers
A call video at about 1.5 megabits per second is roughly 675 MB an hour (1,500,000 divided by 8, times 3,600 seconds). A 3-hour session lands near 2 GB, which is the limit before a first pack; heavier files continue on the upload page and start once a pack is on the account.
Coaching calls and workshops
Whereby is often used for client sessions, small workshops and coaching calls, where the useful part is what was agreed. The brief lists takeaways, chapters mark where each topic starts, and the names, numbers and dates said are gathered, so a follow-up email can be written from the text.
Where browser recordings go wrong
The meeting ran in a browser tab. The recording ended up in Downloads.
✗ Stuck in Downloads
The file exists on one laptop, and nobody has time to watch it.
- A WebM file some tools will not accept
- A local file that only one laptop holds
- Two hours of video to scroll for one answer
- A recording cut short when the tab closed
- Notes typed while trying to run the call
- A 25 MB cap that blocks even short calls
✓ Text from the same file
The WebM or MP4 goes up once and the session comes back as a document.
- The WebM or MP4 uploaded unchanged
- A 2-hour call back in about 4 minutes
- 120 minutes of a $6 pack
- Chapters for each part of the session
- Each participant named in brief and quotes
- TXT or DOCX for the follow-up

FAQ
Whereby recordings, the common questions.
How quickly is a Whereby recording transcribed?
At about 2 minutes per hour of audio: a 1-hour call in about 2 minutes, a 3-hour workshop in about 6. Uploading a large WebM usually takes longer than the transcription itself.
What does a 2-hour session cost?
The first 20 minutes are free for a first-time visitor, so a short call is transcribed in full. A 2-hour session is 120 minutes on the $6 pack of 500; four such sessions use 480 minutes and fit the same pack with 20 to spare.
Does it take WebM files?
Yes. WebM is accepted alongside MP4, M4A, MP3 and WAV. If one particular file is refused, convert it to MP3 first and upload that.
What are the size and length limits?
A Whereby file can run 10 hours or reach 5 GB. Before a first pack, an upload can be up to 2 GB, and a heavier one starts once a pack is on the account. Sessions that ran over 10 hours go in as two files.
Which languages work?
99, detected automatically, so a session in Swedish, Portuguese, Afrikaans or Korean needs no setting. Where speakers switch language, the recording is detected on its main language and the switches are handled.
Exports, and does anything join my Whereby room?
Whereby sessions export as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Whereby files uploaded here are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training, and no bot joins your room.
