Transcribe Windows Voice Recorder recordings the laptop heard the whole day.
A long session recorded with Windows Voice Recorder transcribes once you upload the saved file here, and a 6-hour training day takes about 12 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and that day's 360 minutes fit the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
A laptop on the table
Leaving the laptop recording all day is easy. Using the recording is the work.
Voice Recorder or Sound Recorder
Windows 10 shipped an app called Voice Recorder; on Windows 11 its successor is called Sound Recorder. Both usually save to a Sound recordings folder in Documents, and the app's menu can often open the file's location for you. The file is usually M4A unless the settings were changed.
Placing the laptop
The built-in microphone favours whoever sits closest. Put the laptop in the middle of the table, away from the projector fan, and keep its lid open; a plug-in USB microphone helps in a large room. Test with a short recording before the session starts, and play it back from the far end of the table. If the trainer is hard to hear there, move the laptop closer to the front.
A month of training days
One 6-hour day uses 360 minutes of the $6 pack of 500. Four training days in a month are 1,440 minutes and go on the $12 pack of 2,000; a programme of twelve training days, 4,320 minutes, fits the $24 pack of 5,000.
Long files and the upload page
An M4A recording of six hours is usually well under 500 MB and fits the box above. A WAV recording can be several GB; upload it on upload page, where one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, or save it as M4A first.

FAQ
Windows Voice Recorder files, the common questions.
Where did my recording go?
Usually Documents, then Sound recordings. If it is not there, open the recording in the app and use its menu to open the file location, or search File Explorer for files ending in .m4a.
How long does a 6-hour file take?
About 12 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. You can upload and come back later; the transcript stays in your account.
My recording is longer than 10 hours. What now?
Split it into two files at a natural break, such as lunch, with any audio editor and upload both. Each file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB.
What does a first visit cost?
The opening 20 minutes cost nothing. A file that fits transcribes in full; a longer one is previewed, and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest from where the preview ended. Files over 2 GB start once a pack is on the account.
Is a team plan available?
A team that records sessions every week can use the $19/month Workspace; one-time packs suit anyone recording now and then. Packs carry no subscription and their credits never expire, so a trainer who runs four days a quarter pays only for those days.
What can I download, and is it private?
Download it as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and WhipScribe has no add-in or integration in Windows.
