Transcribe a long Wirecast recording from the event recorded to disk.
A long Wirecast recording is transcribed by uploading the file Wirecast recorded to disk, up to 10 hours or 5 GB, or by pasting the YouTube or Vimeo link of the stream. A 7-hour conference day comes back in about 14 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers its 420.
For event producers
The event is over and the recording is on the drive. The organisers want proceedings by the end of the week.
Use the disk recording
Wirecast's record-to-disk output is usually an MP4 or MOV, written to the location set in its output settings. Copy it from the production machine and drop it on the upload page, or paste the stream link once the event is published.
Sessions become chapters
Keynote, panel, break, workshop: chapters follow each change of session with a title and timestamp, so the full-day file reads like a programme.
Every presenter credited by name
Presenters and panelists are named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters, and the figures and dates they gave are listed with their times.
Breaks and walk-in music skipped
Holding music, applause and crowd noise during breaks are not transcribed, so a long gap between sessions leaves a gap in the text, not a page of noise.
Event recordings elsewhere
A full-day ISO or program recording is too large and too long for tools sized for a single talk.
✗ Proceedings by hand
The recording is cut into sessions in an editor and each one is sent off separately. The video team finishes the event and the writing team waits for the files.
- Splitting the day into talk-sized files
- The OpenAI Whisper API limit of 25 MB per upload
- Speaker names typed from the programme
- Days of waiting for a long event
- Captions made separately for each session
- No search across the whole event
✓ The whole day here
One upload per day, and the sessions come back already marked.
- Text about 14 minutes after a 7-hour upload
- Chapters per session in programme order
- Each presenter named in the summary
- Figures and dates from the stage, timestamped
- DOCX for proceedings, SRT for video
- A three-day event on the $12 pack

FAQ
Wirecast recordings, answered.
How long does a 7-hour event day take?
About 14 minutes, since processing runs near 2 minutes per hour of audio.
What will a multi-day event cost?
On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free, and the rest of a longer file is previewed until a pack is added. A 7-hour day is 420 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Three such days are 1,260 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, with 740 left for the workshops.
How big is a disk recording, and what is the limit?
Wirecast files can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB each here. At 10 Mbps an hour takes 10 x 3,600 = 36,000 megabits, 4.5 GB, so a full day at that rate is well past 5 GB. Paste the stream link, or convert the recording to MP3 first; 7 hours at 128 kbps is about 403 MB. Before the first pack, uploads stop at 2 GB.
Should each session be its own file?
There is no need. One file per day is easier, and the chapters mark each session. Only a recording longer than 10 hours has to be split, into two files. If the day was recorded as separate ISO feeds, the program output is the one to send.
What about sessions in other languages?
The main language of each file is detected automatically among 99. A day with one session in French and the rest in English is read on English, with the switch handled.
Which exports are included, and is the footage private?
An event day exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. WhipScribe has no Wirecast plugin; it reads the recording after the event.
