32-bit float WAV · microSD · 2 h in about 4 min

Transcribe long lectures from a Zoom H1essential float WAV in, study notes out.

A 2-hour lecture recorded on a Zoom H1essential comes back as text in about 4 minutes once its 32-bit float WAV is uploaded; at 48 kHz stereo that file is roughly 2.8 GB, so it starts after a pack is on the account, or right away as an MP3 copy. The first 20 minutes are free, the lecture uses 120 minutes of the $6 pack of 500, and a 12-week course of three hours a week fits the $24 pack of 5,000.

microSD to transcript

The H1essential records in 32-bit float, so a lecturer who suddenly raises their voice does not clip. The catch is the file size.

Finding the take

The H1essential writes its recordings to a microSD card. Connect it to a computer by USB, or put the card in a reader, and copy the WAV for the lecture you need; if you recorded several classes that day, check each file's creation time to find the right one.

What a float lecture weighs

Each 32-bit float sample takes 4 bytes. Stereo at 48 kHz is 384,000 bytes a second, about 1.38 GB an hour, so a 2-hour lecture is near 2.8 GB and a 4-hour block passes 5 GB. If the recorder was set to 44.1 kHz, the files are about 8% smaller.

When to make a smaller copy

Files to 2 GB upload before any pack; between 2 and 5 GB they start once a pack is on the account. For a block that runs past 5 GB, export the lecture from an audio editor as a 128 kbps MP3, about 58 MB an hour, which carries every word the float file does.

Notes from a whole course

Each lecture returns with a brief of the argument, timestamped chapters that follow the topics, and the names, figures and dates the lecturer mentioned. Twelve weeks of three hours is 2,160 minutes, past the $12 pack of 2,000, so the $24 pack of 5,000 covers the course with room for the next one.

Float lectures elsewhere

A recorder that never clips leaves files most transcription tools will not take.

✗ Where it usually stalls

A clean recording of every class, and no way to read any of it.

  • The OpenAI Whisper API stops at 25 MB a file
  • A 2.8 GB WAV refused on size alone
  • Lectures chopped into a dozen clips
  • Timestamps that restart in every piece
  • Revision weeks spent re-listening
  • A full microSD card and no notes

✓ Every lecture as text

One file per class, read start to finish.

  • Float WAV or an MP3 copy, both accepted
  • Two hours of lecture in about 4 minutes
  • Chapters that track the course outline
  • Students' questions listed with times
  • The first 20 minutes of a first lecture at no cost
  • A 12-week course on one $24 pack

Sample

This sample is illustrative, written for this page and not taken from a real course. The timestamps follow a single 2-hour class.

00:01:12 Morning. We left the cell cycle unfinished on Tuesday, so that is where we pick up.
00:44:37 Write this down: checkpoints, not speed, are what the exam questions are really about.
01:19:05 Can a cell skip the second checkpoint if the DNA is already fine?
01:19:40 It cannot skip it. It passes it quickly, which is a different thing, and the exam knows the difference.

FAQ

Zoom H1essential recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2-hour H1essential lecture take?

About 4 minutes of processing once the upload completes. A 50-minute seminar from the same recorder is ready in under 2.

Will the 32-bit float WAV upload as it is?

Yes, within the limits: up to 2 GB before a pack, up to 5 GB once one is on the account, and up to 10 hours in any case. If the upload ever refuses a float file, convert it to MP3 and try again; the transcript reads the speech, not the headroom.

What does a course of H1essential lectures cost?

Three hours a week for 12 weeks is 2,160 minutes, which belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000. One 2-hour lecture fits the $6 pack of 500 with 380 minutes left, and the first 20 minutes on a first visit are free. Credits never expire.

Does WhipScribe connect to the recorder?

No. There is no integration with the H1essential or with any Zoom software; you copy the WAV off the card and upload it, or put it in Google Drive and paste the share link.

What if the lecture is not in English?

99 languages are detected automatically, so a lecture in German, Tagalog or Japanese needs no setting, and a class that moves between two languages is detected on the main one.

Which formats come back, and is the recording private?

Download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Record only where the lecturer allows it; what you upload stays yours, because recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
