WAV or MP3 · SD card · 75 min in about 2.5

Transcribe long lectures and meetings from a Zoom H2n straight from the SD card.

A 75-minute lecture recorded on a Zoom H2n is text in about 2.5 minutes, and both the WAV and the MP3 files it writes to the SD card upload as they are. The first 20 minutes are free, one lecture uses 75 minutes of a $6 pack of 500, and a 14-week term of two lectures a week fits the $24 pack of 5,000.

Card to transcript

The H2n sits on a desk or a lectern for the whole class. The file it leaves needs no preparation.

Where the takes are

The H2n saves to an SD card, in folders by recording mode. Connect it by USB as a card reader, or take the card out, and copy the take you want. If you used a four-channel surround mode, the take is usually two stereo files; upload the one facing the speaker, or mix them.

WAV or MP3 for a class

A 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo WAV runs about 635 MB an hour (44,100 × 2 bytes × 2 channels × 3,600 seconds), so 75 minutes is around 794 MB. An MP3 at 128 kbps is about 72 MB for the same class. Both are far under the 2 GB that uploads before a pack.

A term, counted

Two 75-minute lectures a week for 14 weeks is 28 lectures and 2,100 minutes. That is just past the $12 pack of 2,000, so the $24 pack of 5,000 is the right buy and leaves 2,900 minutes for the next term. A single lecture fits the $6 pack with 425 to spare.

Revision notes from each class

Each lecture returns with a brief of the argument, chapters with timestamps that follow the topics, and the names, numbers and dates the lecturer said. The chat answers a question like which reading the exam leans on, and points to the minute it was said.

Lecture recordings elsewhere

A semester of H2n recordings is a lot of audio to type, and too much for small upload limits.

✗ What usually happens

The lectures get recorded, then sit unheard.

  • The OpenAI Whisper API caps uploads at 25 MB
  • Lectures cut into pieces to fit
  • Typed notes that miss the second half
  • Two-file surround takes left unmatched
  • Exam hints buried at minute 70
  • A full SD card and no notes

✓ Every class as text

Each lecture uploads in one go and reads in order.

  • WAV or MP3 as the H2n saved it
  • About 2.5 minutes per 75-minute class
  • Chapters that move with the course outline
  • Questions from students listed
  • The opening 20 minutes of a first lecture free
  • A whole term on a $24 pack

00:58:10 Does the curve shift if the price of the substitute changes, or do we move along it?
00:58:41 It shifts. Moving along it only happens when the good's own price changes.

FAQ

Zoom H2n recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 75-minute H2n lecture take?

About 2.5 minutes. A 2.5-hour staff meeting from the same recorder takes about 5.

How much is a whole term of H2n lectures?

Twenty-eight lectures of 75 minutes come to 2,100 minutes, which belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes at $0.29 an audio hour. One lecture fits the $6 pack. On a first visit, the first 20 minutes of the lecture are free.

I recorded in four-channel mode. Which file goes up?

The mode usually leaves two stereo files for one take. Upload the one that faced the speaker, or mix both into one file in an editor and upload the mix.

How large can an H2n file be?

The ceiling is 10 hours or 5 GB per H2n file. Before a first pack, files up to 2 GB upload; bigger ones start once a pack is on the account. A full day of lectures in MP3 stays well below both.

Can the lecture be in another language?

Yes, any of 99, detected automatically. Lectures in Korean, Portuguese, Hebrew or Tagalog need no setting, and a class that slips between English and Tagalog is handled.

What formats can I download, and is my recording private?

Lecture text downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Lectures you upload are yours: recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Record and upload only what the lecturer allows.
