Transcribe a long WEBA file straight from the browser.
A WEBA file is WebM audio, usually Opus at 48 to 160 kbps, about 22 to 72 MB per hour, so a full 10-hour file stays under 750 MB. It usually uploads as it is (if it is refused, convert it to MP3 with ffmpeg or VLC) and transcribes at about 2 minutes per audio hour; the first 20 minutes are free and a 6-hour recording fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
WEBA, worked out
Browsers record in WebM by default. Many save the audio-only result as .weba.
Who makes WEBA files
Online voice recorders, browser-based meeting and interview tools, and web apps that record a microphone often save WebM audio, and some name it .weba. Downloaders that grab the audio stream from a video site can save WebM audio too. Long ones are typically workshops, interviews and classes recorded in a browser tab.
Size from the bitrate
Opus at 48 kbps is about 22 MB an hour; at 128 kbps about 58 MB; at 160 kbps about 72 MB. A 10-hour recording at 160 kbps is around 720 MB, more than the 500 MB this box takes, so it continues on the upload page, and far below the 2 GB allowed before a pack.
Uploading it
WebM audio is a browser format, so it usually uploads as is. Browser recorders sometimes leave out the duration, which makes players show the wrong length; if the upload refuses the file or misreads it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC, which rewrites it cleanly. If the original is a YouTube video, paste the link instead.
What comes back
A brief with thesis and takeaways, timestamped chapters, the names, numbers and dates said, the questions the session answers, and a chat to ask about it. The people speaking are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Why long browser recordings go unused
The tab recorded every word. Nobody has time to play six hours back.
✗ Saved, never heard again
Browser recordings pile up in Downloads with names like recording (7).weba.
- Players that show 00:00 as the length
- Phones that will not open .weba
- Recorders that stop at an hour elsewhere
- No timestamps to find a moment
- Several files for one long session
- Notes nobody took on the day

FAQ
Long WEBA files, the usual questions.
Does WhipScribe accept WEBA?
WebM audio usually uploads as it is. If the upload refuses your file, or the length looks wrong, convert it to MP3 with ffmpeg or VLC; ffmpeg -i workshop.weba -b:a 96k workshop.mp3 is enough.
How fast is a long WEBA transcribed?
About 2 minutes per hour of audio: a 6-hour session is ready in roughly 12 minutes. The 9.31-hour test on the proof page finished in 1,033 seconds.
What do weekly workshops cost?
Four 3-hour workshops are 720 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000 with 1,280 minutes left. A single 6-hour session is 360 minutes on the $6 pack of 500.
How big is a WEBA file per hour?
About 22 MB at 48 kbps, 58 MB at 128 kbps and 72 MB at 160 kbps. The size line rarely matters; the 10-hour line per file is the one a long browser recording meets.
The recording ran longer than 10 hours.
Split it into two files of 10 hours or less with ffmpeg and upload both. A recording that was streamed to YouTube, Twitch or Kick can be pasted as a link instead of uploaded.
Languages and privacy?
99 languages, detected automatically; a session that switches language is detected on its main one. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
