Transcribe a long MKA file whatever codec is inside.
An MKA file is a Matroska container holding one audio track, about 29 MB per hour in Opus and 300 to 450 MB in stereo FLAC, so 10 hours fits one file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. If the upload refuses it, convert it to MP3 with ffmpeg or VLC; it transcribes at about 2 minutes per audio hour, the first 20 minutes are free, and a 7-hour stream audio track fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
MKA, worked out
Matroska will hold any codec you give it. The size of your file depends on which one.
Where MKA files come from
MKA is the audio-only form of Matroska, the container behind MKV. People get one by pulling the audio track out of an MKV with mkvextract or ffmpeg: a stream saved by recording software, a recorded meeting, a disc rip. Audiobook and concert rips and some audio editors also save MKA when asked to keep the original codec untouched.
Size by codec
Opus at 64 kbps is about 29 MB an hour; AAC at 160 kbps about 72 MB; AC3 at 448 kbps about 202 MB; stereo FLAC at 44.1 kHz roughly 300 to 450 MB, depending on the material. Ten hours of FLAC can reach 3 to 4.5 GB, over the 2 GB allowed before a pack, under the 5 GB ceiling.
Getting it accepted
Try the MKA first. If the upload refuses it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC; ffmpeg -i stream.mka -b:a 96k stream.mp3 turns ten hours of anything into about 432 MB. The box here takes up to 500 MB, and a larger file continues on the upload page.
What returns
A brief with thesis and takeaways, chapters stamped to the minute, the names, numbers and dates said aloud, the questions the recording answers, and a chat over the text. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Why MKA files trip up quick tools
Few apps list .mka in their file picker, and long ones are rarely small.
✗ A container few forms expect
Matroska audio is common on desktops and rare in upload forms.
- File pickers that grey out .mka
- Phones that will not play it
- FLAC tracks of several gigabytes
- Upload caps set at 25 MB
- Streams that ran past an hour
- No way to search what was said
✓ The track as text
Upload the MKA, or its MP3, and read it.
- Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file
- About 2 minutes per audio hour
- The first 20 minutes free
- $12 for 2,000 minutes, a month of streams
- Chapters to jump back into
- SRT and VTT for the original video

FAQ
Long MKA files, the practical questions.
Will the upload take an MKA file?
It may, since the audio inside is usually a codec the service reads. If the upload refuses it, convert to MP3 or MP4 with ffmpeg or VLC and upload that instead. Nothing in the speech is lost at 96 kbps.
How quickly does a long MKA transcribe?
About 2 minutes per audio hour: a 7-hour stream track takes roughly 14 minutes. A 4 GB FLAC file will usually spend longer uploading, which is a good reason to convert it to MP3 first.
What does a month of stream audio cost?
Four weekly 7-hour streams are 1,680 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000 with 320 to spare. One 7-hour stream is 420 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. A team that records every week can also look at the $19-a-month Workspace.
Can I upload the MKV instead?
Yes, if it is within 10 hours and 5 GB, or 2 GB before your first pack. The MKA is simply smaller, because it has no video. If the stream is still on YouTube, Twitch or Kick, paste the link and skip the file.
My audiobook rip is 14 hours.
Each file can be up to 10 hours, so split it into two, for example at a chapter break, and upload both. Fourteen hours is 840 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000.
