60 to 120 min each · dozens per study · DOCX out

Transcribe research interviews in Japan and code them the same week.

Research interviews from Japan of 60 to 120 minutes each are transcribed in about 2 minutes per audio hour, so a 90-minute interview takes roughly 3 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, twenty 90-minute interviews fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, and every transcript downloads as DOCX for qualitative coding.

Packs from $6, credits never expire · then from $0.36/hour · Credits never expire · Never used to train AI
✓About 3 min per interview · ✓DOCX for coding · ✓First 20 min free per new visitor · ✓No training on participant audio

For a study, not a single file

Dozens of long interviews, transcribed in an afternoon rather than a term.

Into your coding software

Download each interview as DOCX and import it into the qualitative analysis tool your project uses. JSON keeps the timestamps if you prefer to work with the data directly.

A study's worth, priced

Thirty interviews of 90 minutes are 2,700 minutes. The $24 pack of 5,000 minutes covers them and leaves 2,300 for follow-up interviews, at $0.29 per audio hour.

Themes before you start coding

The brief gives each interview's main points, and the chat over the transcript answers a question such as where the participant talks about work hours. That helps build a first codebook.

Participant audio stays private

Interview recordings are processed on our own servers and never used for training. Delete the audio once the transcript is checked if your ethics approval asks for it.

Why interview studies stall

Transcription is the slowest step between fieldwork and analysis.

✗ Typing every interview

A study of thirty long interviews can mean weeks of transcription before any coding begins. Agencies can take days to return each file, and the cost grows with every extra interview.

  • Four to six hours of typing per interview hour
  • Free tiers that end early in an interview
  • Files from different recorders and phones
  • Costs quoted per minute by agencies
  • No timestamps to return to the audio
  • Analysis delayed until the term ends

✓ The whole set in an afternoon

Upload each interview as you finish it and keep coding moving. Coding can begin while fieldwork is still going on.

  • About 3 minutes per 90-minute interview
  • DOCX ready for import
  • Timestamps to check a quotation
  • Each participant named in summary and quotes
  • Credits that last the whole project
  • Audio deleted when you choose

A research interview, as it might come back.

This sample is illustrative and written for this page, not taken from any study. It is shown in English; an interview in Japanese comes back in Japanese.

00:02:15 Before we begin, I will confirm again that you can stop at any time and that your name will not appear in the report.
00:24:50 When the office moved to the new system, the older staff stayed late to learn it. Nobody asked them to, but everyone knew.
00:47:30 You said everyone knew. How did that expectation get passed on?
01:21:05 Mostly by example. The section chief stayed, so the rest of us stayed too.

FAQ

Research interviews from Japan, the common questions.

How long does a 90-minute interview take to transcribe?

About 3 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A 2-hour interview takes around 4. Uploading several in a row works; each one finishes on its own. If an interview was recorded on two devices, upload the clearer copy.

What does a full study cost?

Twenty interviews of 90 minutes come to 1,800 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Thirty of them are 2,700 minutes, which suits the $24 pack of 5,000. A single interview of up to 20 minutes is free for a first-time visitor.

How large can an interview file be?

Each interview file may be up to 5 GB and 10 hours; before the first pack, the upload limit is 2 GB. A 2-hour interview recorded on a phone or a handheld recorder is usually a small fraction of that.

We recorded a whole day of group interviews in one file. Does it need splitting?

Only above 10 hours. A day of sessions under that length uploads as one file with one set of timestamps.

Does it work for Japanese interviews, and for participants who switch to English?

Japanese is identified automatically among 99 languages. An interview is transcribed on its main language, so English answers inside a Japanese interview should be checked against the audio before you quote them.

Which formats can I export, and what happens to participant audio?

Every interview exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. For ethics paperwork you can state that recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
