Transcribe a whole training day from New Zealand, in one file.

A seven-hour training day recorded in New Zealand comes back as text in about 14 minutes, in one file, and the first 20 minutes are free. The full 420 minutes fit on a $6 pack of 500 minutes, and so does an eight-hour day.

What a training day looks like here

Morning to afternoon, one recording, one document you can teach from.

Leave the camera running

There is no need to stop the recording at morning tea or lunch. One file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB goes in whole, and the gaps where nobody spoke cost almost nothing to process.

Modules you can jump between

Chapters follow the changes of topic through the day, which in a structured course usually line up with the modules. A participant who missed the afternoon can open the chapter they need instead of watching four hours.

Watch the 2 GB line

A full day of camera video often passes 2 GB. Before the first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB, so either buy the pack first or save the audio alone, which for a day is a few hundred megabytes. Both routes start from upload page.

From recording to course notes

The brief sets out the day's takeaways, the key quotes carry the presenter's name, and the questions the recording answers make a ready quiz or recap sheet for the next cohort.

Why a full day is awkward elsewhere

Most transcription tools assume nobody records for seven hours straight.

✗ A day in pieces

Short-file tools force a long day into hour-long chunks, each with its own clock.

  • Eight separate uploads for one day
  • Timestamps that restart every hour
  • Length caps far below a working day
  • Course notes written from memory
  • A subscription for one workshop
  • Nothing searchable for the next cohort

✓ One day, one file

The day goes in as recorded and comes back with chapters you can teach from.

  • Ten hours per file, at most
  • Seven hours back in ~14 minutes
  • Chapters by module
  • Names and figures listed
  • An eight-hour day on $6
  • Captions for the recording

00:05:30 Morning, everyone. We have four modules today, with morning tea at half past ten and lunch at half past twelve.
01:48:10 Module two is about the risk register, so have the template open in front of you.
03:22:45 If a hazard is already controlled, do we still log it, or only the ones that are open?
03:23:10 Log it anyway and mark it as controlled. The auditor will want to see that you identified it.
06:51:20 That is the end of module four. Please fill in the feedback form before you head off.

FAQ

Training days in New Zealand, the common questions.

How long does a seven-hour training day take to transcribe?

Roughly 14 minutes: two minutes or so for each of the seven hours. A six-hour day is usually ready in about 12 and an eight-hour day in about 16.

What does a training day cost?

Seven hours is 420 minutes and an eight-hour day is 480, so either fits on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Four seven-hour days in a quarter come to 1,680 minutes, which goes on the $12 pack of 2,000 instead, about $0.36 per audio hour.

How big can the file be, and when do I need to split it?

The limit per file is 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever is reached first. A training day almost never needs splitting; a recording longer than 10 hours goes in as two files, cut at a break.

Which languages work?

99 languages are detected automatically, and each recording is detected on its main language. A course run in English with te reo Māori openings or passages is transcribed as English, so give those parts a review pass.

Which exports come back, and is the content kept private?

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, all from one run. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the day's recording and transcript at any time.

Can I turn the transcript into a handout?

Yes. Start from the DOCX, keep the chapters as headings, and trim the conversation between them. The questions the recording answers make a ready recap or quiz for participants.
