For tauira and kaiako

A course taught in te reo, with every lecture in text for revision.

A first draft, said plainly

te reo Māori is supported and detected on its own, but accuracy trails the major languages. Use the transcript as a fast first draft, plan one review pass before it becomes course notes, and expect to fix macrons, names and less common words.

A whole course, one purchase

Twelve 2-hour lectures are 1,440 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000. Two such courses in one semester are 2,880 minutes on the $24 pack of 5,000. A short noho of three 2-hour sessions is 360 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. The figures are US dollars.

Only what you are allowed to download

Transcribe the lectures your kaiako or institution lets you download or record. Upload the file, usually an MP4 from a lecture-capture system or an M4A from a phone, or paste a YouTube or Google Drive link if the lecture was shared that way. Lecture-capture videos above 500 MB go through upload page.

Revision that starts from the chapters

Each lecture returns with a brief of its key ideas, chapters by topic with timestamps, the names, terms and dates mentioned, and the questions the lecture answered. The lecturer is named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Why te reo lectures are hard to revise from

Three hours of teaching in te reo, and the only notes are what you kept up with.

✗ Notes in a hurry

Writing te reo at speaking pace is hard even for fluent tauira, and lecture video is slow to search. Second-language learners lose the thread first, exactly when a written version would help them most.

  • Notes that miss whole explanations
  • Tools that only listen for English
  • Lecture video scrubbed by hand
  • Recordings split to upload
  • No timestamps to revisit a point
  • Revision weeks spent re-watching

✓ A draft of every lecture

Each lecture is te reo text with chapters by topic, ready to review and annotate.

  • Roughly 4 minutes per 2-hour lecture
  • te reo and English side by side
  • Kaiako named in the summary
  • Kupu and terms listed with timestamps
  • Topic-by-topic chapters for revision
  • Twelve lectures on one $12 pack

FAQ

Wānanga lectures, answered.

How soon is a 2-hour wānanga lecture ready?

In about 4 minutes, since each audio hour needs around 2. A 3-hour session takes about 6, and a full day of three sessions about 12 to 18 minutes depending on their length.

What would a full te reo course cost?

Twelve 2-hour lectures are 1,440 minutes on the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Two courses in a semester, 2,880 minutes, belong on the $24 pack of 5,000. Before buying, you get the first 20 minutes free.

Is there a file limit?

A lecture file may be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, whichever is hit first; without a pack, uploads stop at 2 GB. A long lecture video in high resolution may be large; upload the audio alone or buy the pack first.

How accurate is te reo Māori?

It trails the major languages. Lectures that switch to English are detected on their main language and the switches are handled, but the te reo passages need a fluent reader to correct names, macrons and specialist vocabulary.

Are mōteatea or karakia in the lecture transcribed?

Chanting and recitation are not transcribed; the teaching about them is. A lecturer explaining a mōteatea in a speaking voice appears in the text.

Which exports are there, and is the lecture private?

Lectures download as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, and SRT or VTT add captions to a lecture video. Recordings of wānanga lectures are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
