$6 · $12 · $24 · pick by minutes

Which transcription pack do I need? the one your total minutes fit into.

Add up the running time of everything you want transcribed: up to 500 minutes (about 8 hours 20 minutes) is the $6 pack, up to 2,000 minutes (about 33 hours) is the $12 pack, and up to 5,000 minutes (about 83 hours) is the $24 pack of 5,000. Each file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB (2 GB before your first pack), comes back in about 2 minutes per audio hour, and the first 20 minutes are free, so you can try your own recording before choosing.

How to choose

One sum, three thresholds, and no penalty for rounding up.

Step one: total the running time

List the recordings you have now and the ones you know are coming: this month's meetings, a semester of lectures, a box of interviews. Add their lengths in minutes. The number of speakers, the language and the file format do not change the count; only the running time does.

Step two: match it to a threshold

500 minutes or less: the $6 pack. Between 501 and 2,000: the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. Between 2,001 and 5,000: the $24 pack of 5,000. Above 5,000, combine packs, for example the $24 pack plus the $6 pack for a total of 5,500 minutes.

Why rounding up is safe

Credits never expire and there is no subscription to cancel, so minutes you do not use this month sit on the account for the next project. Per hour, the larger packs are cheaper: about $0.72 on the smallest, $0.36 on the middle one and about $0.29 on the largest.

Test before you pay

The first 20 minutes of your first recording are free. A clip shorter than that comes back complete; a longer recording is previewed, and once a pack is on the account the rest is transcribed from where the preview stopped. The box here takes files up to 500 MB; a bigger file continues on the main upload page.

Picking a pack

Guessing by price is how people buy twice.

✗ Choosing by feel

Common ways to end up with the wrong pack.

  • Buying the cheapest without adding up minutes
  • Forgetting the recordings still to come
  • Counting files instead of minutes
  • Paying before testing the audio
  • Assuming unused minutes vanish
  • Splitting a long file to save money

✓ Choosing by total

A five-minute sum that settles it.

  • Running time added up in minutes
  • Next month's recordings included
  • The threshold that total fits under
  • First 20 minutes tested free
  • Leftover minutes kept for later
  • One file per recording, up to 10 hours

FAQ

Choosing a pack: the follow-up questions.

Which transcription pack do I need?

The smallest one your total fits under. Up to 500 minutes is the $6 pack, up to 2,000 minutes the $12 pack, up to 5,000 minutes the $24 pack. A single 3-hour lecture (180 minutes) fits the $6 pack with 320 minutes to spare.

What do typical projects come to?

Thirteen weekly 90-minute meetings are 1,170 minutes, which fits the $12 pack of 2,000. A semester of two 90-minute lectures a week for fourteen weeks is 2,520 minutes, which needs the $24 pack of 5,000. A 110-episode podcast archive at 50 minutes an episode is 5,500 minutes: the $24 pack plus the $6 pack.

Do I need a pack before I can upload a big file?

Only above 2 GB. Before the first pack, uploads go up to 2 GB; a file between 2 GB and 5 GB starts once a pack is on the account. Recordings longer than 10 hours go in as two files.

Is there a monthly plan?

The packs are one-time purchases. A team that records every week can look at the $19/month Workspace instead; for one person or one project, a pack is usually the simpler fit.

I have tapes, DVDs or MiniDiscs. Which pack?

Digitise them first, then add up the running time of the files you made, and choose the same way. We do not digitise media; once the audio is a file, it uploads like any other.

What is included, and where is the audio processed?

Every pack includes the transcript with timestamps, a brief, chapters, speakers named in the summary and key quotes, and exports in TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
