WhipScribe transcribes the recordings a business would otherwise send to a transcription vendor for $0.29 to $0.48 per audio hour, against $47 to $119 an hour at published human rates. An hour of audio comes back in about 2 minutes, and a whole batch runs at once.
Who this is for
Outsourcing transcription usually means a contract with a vendor: you send interviews, calls, meetings, hearings or dictation, a team of typists works through them, and you pay by the audio minute with a turnaround measured in hours or business days. It works, and for some material it is the right call. It is also the largest line in many research, media and operations budgets, and it puts a queue between the recording and the people who need the text.
WhipScribe is the other way to send the work out. You hand the recordings to a machine transcription service instead of a typing team. There is no quote, no minimum volume and no account manager. You buy minutes once or pay a flat monthly fee, your team uploads or links recordings as they arrive, and transcripts land in a shared, searchable library a few minutes later.
This page is for the buyer of the work. If you are looking for transcription work as a typist, see transcription jobs; if you need one human transcriptionist for a single project, our human transcription services guide compares ten providers.
How it works
Drop many files at once in the box above, import from Google Drive, or paste podcast, RSS, YouTube or Drive links. One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB.
Every recording gets a free preview of its summary, so you can check the audio was the right one before spending a minute of credit.
A pack from $4 or a Workspace plan opens the full transcript, with a timestamp on every line, in about 2 minutes per hour of audio.
Download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, or connect your own systems through the API, included with any pack or Workspace.
What you get back
Punctuated text with a timestamp on every line, readable and searchable in the browser, exported as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON at no extra charge.
A brief with the thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates that were said, and a chat over the transcript. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Every recording stays in one library you can search across, so last quarter's calls are as easy to find as today's. 99+ languages are detected automatically.
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Audio is never sent to a third-party AI service, and any recording and its transcript can be deleted at any time. More on the security page.

Honest comparison
Human vendor rates are from each company's own pricing page, checked 4 Oct 2026. They are entry rates; rush turnaround, verbatim style and extra review usually cost more.

|---|---|---|---|
| 10 hours | $1,194 | $474 | $8 (one $8 pack, 400 minutes left over) |

A human vendor sells something we do not: a person who listens to every word and stands behind the result. Keep that for material where a wrong word costs something real:
Many teams split the work: everything goes through WhipScribe first, and only the few recordings that must be checked by a person go on to a vendor. The machine transcript then doubles as the brief for that vendor, and the bill shrinks to the files that actually need a human. FAQ
Human transcription vendors charge by the audio minute: Rev lists $1.99 per minute and TranscribeMe starts at $0.79 per minute on their own pricing pages (checked 4 Oct 2026), which is about $47 to $119 per audio hour. Sending the same audio to WhipScribe costs $0.29 to $0.48 per hour in packs from $4 for 500 minutes, or $19 a month for Workspace with fair use of 700 hours.
About 2 minutes of processing per hour of audio, and most files finish in under a minute. A batch of recordings runs in parallel, so a week of interviews is usually back the same afternoon. Human vendors typically quote hours to business days; Rev states 12 hours or less for its human service.
No. It is machine (AI) transcription: nobody listens to your recordings and no editor checks the text. That is why the price is cents per hour. For court records, certified transcripts or audio where every word must be checked by a person, outsource to a human service instead.
If you send less than about 66 hours a month, the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes is cheapest and its credits never expire. Above that, Workspace at $19 a month with fair use of 700 hours costs less per hour. Neither has seat fees or a minimum job size.
Yes. You can drop many files at once, import from Google Drive, paste podcast, RSS or YouTube links, or send recordings through the API, which is included with any pack or Workspace. Each recording becomes its own transcript in a searchable library.
Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and every line of the transcript carries its timestamp so you can check any attribution against the audio. If your deliverable needs a name on every line, a human vendor is the better fit.
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. Audio is never sent to a third-party AI service, and you can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
One file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB, in any common audio or video format. 99+ languages are detected automatically, and the transcript comes back in the language that was spoken.
