WhipScribe transcribes an hour of audio in about 2 minutes of processing, and the rush price is the normal price: packs from $4 for 500 minutes, about $0.48 for a one-hour recording. Human services charge $2 to $2.75 a minute for their fastest tiers.
The short answer
Human transcription is priced by how long you can wait. A five-day order is the cheap one; same-day or a few hours costs two to three times as much, because a typist has to be found and moved to the front of the queue. When the recording is due tonight, you pay the top of the rate card.
Machine transcription has no queue of people, so it has no rush tier. Every file goes through at the same speed, about 2 minutes per hour of audio, and costs the same minutes from your pack whether you need it in ten minutes or next month. On a deadline, that is the whole argument: the fastest option is also the cheapest one.
What you give up is a person listening. Nobody proofreads the text and there is no certified transcript. If that matters for this recording, skip to when a human is worth the rush fee.
Rush rates, side by side
Human rates are from each company's own page, checked 4 October 2026, at the standard-order price for under 2,500 minutes.
| Fastest tier listed | Per minute | One-hour recording | Slowest tier, for scale | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WhipScribe | About 2 minutes of processing per audio hour | under $0.01 | about $0.48 | Same speed, same price |
| GoTranscript | 6-12 hour service | $2.75 | $165.00 | 5-day service, $1.20 a minute |
| Scribie | Priority processing, "2x faster delivery" | $0.80 + $1.25 | $123.00 | Base rate $0.80 a minute |
| Rev (human) | "Delivered in 12 hours or less"; rush options listed without a price | $1.99 | $119.40 before any rush option | 12 hours or less is the standard |
GoTranscript's own table shows the rush premium plainly: the same hour costs $72 at 5-day delivery, $96 at 1-day and $165 at 6-12 hours. Scribie's priority add-on more than doubles its base rate. Rev's page says rush can deliver in as little as two hours, up to five times faster than normal, but does not publish the surcharge before checkout.
These are human services, and the comparison is not like for like: a person checks their text. It is still the comparison a buyer with a deadline is making. For a broader per-hour view of AI services, see our price-per-hour comparison and cheap transcription services.
How to meet the deadline
Drop the recording in the box above, or paste a Google Drive, YouTube or podcast link so nothing has to upload from your laptop. Uncompressed WAV is large; save it as MP3 or M4A first and a slow connection stops being the bottleneck.
The summary of any recording is free to read, so you can confirm it is the right file. Buy a pack from $4 to open the full transcript; buying before you upload saves a step when every minute counts.
Every line carries a timestamp. Click a quote you plan to use and hear it against the audio. Names, figures and technical terms are where a machine slips, so spend your spare minutes there.
DOCX for a report or a client, TXT for notes, SRT or VTT for captions on a video going live, JSON for your own tools. All five come with every transcript.
What you get back
Timestamped, searchable in the browser and editable before export. Languages are detected automatically across 99+ of them.
The thesis and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, and the names, numbers and dates that were said. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.
Ask "what did they say about the budget?" and jump to the moment. Useful when you have twenty minutes to write up a two-hour meeting.
Who is in a hurry
What it costs
One-time packs, no seat fees, and credits never expire. Rush and standard are the same thing here.
| Pack | Minutes | Hours of audio | Per audio hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| $4 pack | 500 | 8 h 20 min | $0.48 |
| $8 pack | 1,000 | 16 h 40 min | $0.48 |
| $12 pack | 2,000 | 33 h 20 min | $0.36 |
| $24 pack | 5,000 | 83 h 20 min | $0.29 |
| Workspace | $19 a month, fair use of 700 hours | — | |
If deadlines are a weekly thing, buy the larger pack once and keep the balance: unused minutes carry over indefinitely. Full details, yearly options and the API are on the pricing page.
Plain limits
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
Be honest with yourself
Pay the premium when the transcript is a legal or official record that must be certified, when every line has to carry a speaker's name, when the audio is so poor that someone has to listen anyway, or when the text goes straight to publication with no one free to check it. A practical middle path: run the recording here first so you can work from it today, then send only the passages that matter to a human service. FAQ
About 2 minutes of processing per hour of audio, and most files finish in under a minute. A multi-hour recording can take longer once upload and queue time are added, so allow up to half an hour for a long file. Either way it is back the same hour, not the same day.
No. There is one speed and one price. Packs are $4 for 500 minutes, $8 for 1,000, $12 for 2,000 and $24 for 5,000, and credits never expire. A one-hour recording uses 60 minutes, about $0.48 at the $4 or $8 pack rate.
On their own pages, checked 4 October 2026: GoTranscript's 6-12 hour service is $2.75 a minute for orders under 2,500 minutes, against $1.20 for 5-day delivery. Scribie starts at $0.80 a minute and adds $1.25 a minute for priority processing, described as twice as fast. Rev's human transcription is $1.99 a minute, delivered in 12 hours or less, with rush options that do not show a price on its pricing page.
No. We do not sell a written service level or a delivery deadline. Transcripts are normally back in minutes and you can watch progress in the browser, but if a contract requires a guaranteed turnaround in writing, a human service with a stated service level is the safer buy.
No. WhipScribe is machine (AI) transcription; nobody listens to your file. That is why it is fast and cheap. For a certified court transcript or audio where every word must be checked by a person, use a human service.
Yes, one file can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. If your deadline is tight and the recording runs past 8 hours, split it into two parts and upload both.
Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, and every line of the transcript carries its timestamp, so you can check any quote against the audio before it goes out.
Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
