OneDrive video · save it locally, then upload

How to transcribe a long video from OneDrive save a local copy, then upload it in one piece.

To transcribe a long video from OneDrive, download it from onedrive.com or keep it on your device from the synced OneDrive folder, then upload the file here, since OneDrive share links are not fetched; a 4-hour video is ready in about 8 minutes. Each file may run to 10 hours or 5 GB, files over 2 GB wait for your first pack, the opening 20 minutes are free, and those 240 minutes sit inside the $6 pack of 500.

Where long OneDrive videos come from

Three usual sources, one way in.

Teams meetings you recorded

Recordings of Teams meetings held outside a channel are usually saved to the OneDrive of the person who recorded them, in a Recordings folder. Open it on onedrive.com, select the MP4 and choose Download.

Files On-Demand on Windows

In File Explorer, a cloud icon beside a video means it is not stored on the computer yet. Right-click it and choose Always keep on this device; once the icon turns into a green tick, upload it from that folder like any local file.

Phone videos backed up

If your phone backs up its camera roll to OneDrive, a long talk or event filmed on the phone sits in the Pictures folder there, usually as MP4 or MOV. Download it on a computer, or upload straight from the OneDrive app's save option to the phone first.

Making a big file manageable

An hour of 1080p phone video can pass a gigabyte, so a four-hour event may exceed 2 GB. That file starts once a pack is on the account, through the upload page; or export only the audio, about 230 MB for four hours at 128 kbps, and upload that.

Text from a long OneDrive video

Sharing a link that will not open versus uploading the file.

✗ Trying to work from the share link

A link that needs a Microsoft sign-in, sent to a service that cannot sign in.

  • A login page instead of the video
  • Permissions changed just to get a transcript
  • Waiting on IT to approve an add-in
  • Watching four hours to pull out quotes
  • Captions typed by hand
  • No searchable record afterwards

✓ Uploading a local copy

The video is saved to your device once and uploaded whole.

  • One download, one upload
  • About 8 minutes for four hours
  • Chapters and a brief for the whole video
  • Names, figures and dates pulled out
  • SRT and VTT for captions
  • 240 minutes from the $6 pack

Sample output

A long recorded event from OneDrive, as text.

Illustrative only, not a real recording: four lines from a long internal briefing saved to OneDrive.

FAQ

Questions about long videos in OneDrive.

Can I paste a OneDrive link?

No. OneDrive links usually need a Microsoft sign-in and open a viewer page, so WhipScribe does not fetch them. Download the video and upload it; nothing connects to your Microsoft account.

Is there an add-in or bot for Teams or OneDrive?

No. There is no add-in and no bot joins a live call. WhipScribe works on the recording afterwards, from the file you upload.

How long does a 4-hour video take?

About 8 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. An 8-hour training day takes around 16 minutes.

What does a batch of long videos cost?

Ten 90-minute videos are 900 minutes and fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, leaving 1,100. One 4-hour video is 240 minutes on the $6 pack of 500. A first-time visitor starts with 20 free minutes, and pack credits have no expiry date.

What if the video runs past 10 hours?

Cut it at a pause into two files and upload both. Each part comes back with its own brief, chapters and timestamps.

Which languages and exports?

99 languages are detected automatically, and a video that switches language is detected on its main one. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
