Transcribe Camtasia training recordings one to three hours, in one file.
A 1 to 3-hour Camtasia training is transcribed by producing it as an MP4 and uploading that file here. Three hours come back in about 6 minutes, the first 20 minutes are free, and a 3-hour training is 180 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Produce, then upload
Camtasia's project is not a video yet. Produce the MP4 and the transcript can start.
Produce a local MP4
The project file and Camtasia's own raw recording format are not ordinary video files, so produce the training first: use the Export menu, choose a local file, and pick MP4, which is the usual default. The file saves to the folder named in the export settings. Produce the full training in one file rather than per scene, so every timestamp matches the finished video.
Audio-only if you prefer
Recent Camtasia versions can also export audio only; check the export menu. At 128 kbps that is 128,000 bits times 3,600 seconds divided by 8, about 58 MB an hour, so a 3-hour training is under 180 MB.
A training library
Twenty-five trainings of 2 hours each are 3,000 minutes. That is beyond the $12 pack, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes covers them at $0.29 an audio hour and leaves 2,000 minutes for the next batch.
Handouts from the recording
Each training returns a brief with the takeaways, chapters for every section, and the names, numbers and dates said on screen. Speakers are named in the summary, the key quotes and the chapters when a co-presenter joins. The SRT file can be imported back into Camtasia as captions on the produced video.
Long trainings elsewhere
A three-hour training is easy to record in Camtasia and slow to turn into a handout.
✗ The usual workarounds
Long trainings get chopped up before they get text.
- Producing the course in 30-minute parts
- Captions typed into the timeline
- Training handouts rebuilt from memory
- Learners asking for the slide with the formula
- Upload forms that refuse large MP4s
- A subscription for one library of videos
✓ The produced MP4, whole
One file per training, text for every section.
- MP4 or audio only
- Roughly 6 minutes for three hours of training
- Chapters per training section
- SRT and VTT for the produced video
- No charge for a training's first 20 minutes
- $24 for a 25-training library

FAQ
Camtasia trainings: the common questions.
How long does a 3-hour Camtasia training take?
About 6 minutes; processing runs at roughly 2 minutes for every audio hour. The proof page records 2.48 hours finished in 200 seconds.
What does a training library cost?
On your first visit the first 20 minutes of a training are free. A 3-hour training uses 180 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack. Twenty-five 2-hour trainings (3,000 minutes) belong on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, which also includes API access.
How large can the produced MP4 be, and does a long one need splitting?
Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file, with uploads up to 2 GB before the first pack. A 1 to 3-hour training rarely needs splitting; if a high-bitrate MP4 passes 5 GB, export audio only. A produced 1080p MP4 at 5 Mbps is about 2.25 GB an hour (5 times 3,600 divided by 8), so a 3-hour training lands near 6.75 GB and needs the audio-only route.
Does WhipScribe plug into Camtasia?
No. There is no Camtasia integration or add-in; WhipScribe works on the produced file afterwards. If the training is published to YouTube or Vimeo, the link can be pasted instead.
Can the training be in Japanese, Swedish or Hebrew?
Yes, along with any of 99 languages, detected automatically with no setting to change.
Which exports come back, and is the training private?
A training downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Trainings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete a file whenever you want.
