Transcribe an Echo360 lecture recording for one class or a whole term.
An Echo360 class capture downloaded as a file is transcribed at about 2 minutes per hour, so a 50-minute class is ready in under 2 minutes and a 3-hour block in about 6. Lecturers can download their own captures, and students can download where the lecturer allows it; the first 20 minutes are free and packs start at $6 for 500 minutes. WhipScribe is not connected to Echo360 in any way: it transcribes the downloaded recording.
Two people, one path
Lecturers own the captures. Students use what they are given.
For lecturers with a term of captures
Download the captures you own from Echo360, then upload them one after another. A course with three 50-minute classes a week over fifteen weeks is 45 captures and 2,250 minutes, which is over the $12 pack's 2,000, so it belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes, with room for a second course.
For students, where downloads are on
Echo360 lets the instructor decide whether students can download a capture. When that option is on, take the file and transcribe it. When it is off, the recording is meant to be watched in the platform, and the right move is to ask the lecturer, not to work around the setting.
Audio-only is smaller
Where an audio download is offered, it is a lighter file than the video and transcribes just the same. At 128 kbps, an hour of audio is 128,000 bits a second times 3,600 seconds, or about 58 MB, so even a three-hour block stays far below the 2 GB first-upload ceiling.
What the class turns into
Upload on upload page and each capture returns a brief, chapters with timestamps, the terms and dates mentioned and the questions answered. Lecturers often export DOCX to post as class notes, or SRT to sit beside the video.
What goes wrong with class captures
Forty captures in a term is a lot of video nobody has time to rewatch.
✗ Without a transcript
Captures pile up in the course and mostly go unwatched.
- Students skimming video the night before the exam
- Lecturers retyping notes from their own slides
- A per-request limit of 25 MB on the Whisper API
- Splitting long blocks to fit a short-clip tool
- No search across a term of teaching
- Questions asked in class lost after the session
✓ With one
Each class becomes a document a student can actually revise from.
- Each capture uploaded whole
- A brief per class with takeaways
- Chapters at each topic change
- Dates, readings and deadlines listed
- A chat that answers from the class
- Captions as SRT or VTT if needed

FAQ
Echo360 lectures, answered.
How long does an Echo360 capture take to transcribe?
It runs at roughly 2 minutes for every hour of audio. A 50-minute class is back in under 2 minutes; a 3-hour block takes about 6.
What does a full term of captures cost?
Forty-five classes of 50 minutes are 2,250 minutes. That is more than the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes, so it goes on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes. A single term of 30 classes, 1,500 minutes, would fit the $12 pack. New visitors get the first 20 minutes free before buying. Captures from a second course can share the same $24 pack, since 5,000 minutes leaves 2,750 after the first.
Can students transcribe a capture they cannot download?
Only the lecturer can decide that. A student transcribes the captures the lecturer allows them to download. WhipScribe has no access to Echo360 and no bot inside it.
Is there a size ceiling on an Echo360 download?
An Echo360 capture can be as long as 10 hours or as large as 5 GB. Without a pack, uploads are capped at 2 GB, and a heavier capture video starts once a pack is on the account. Most class captures are far smaller than that, and an audio-only download smaller still.
What about classes in Afrikaans, Hebrew or Spanish?
All detected automatically, among 99 languages. A class that mixes English and another language is detected on its main language, and the switches between them are handled.
Which exports, and what happens to my captures?
Captures come out as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON, so a lecturer can post notes and captions from the same file. The lecturer and other voices are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
